It turns out this only seems to happen when the "Continuous" mode for
Random Mix is disabled ('0' in randommix.prefs). I'm sure it is a waste
of time but I will update the bug report.

I must say that I think it is pretty ridiculous that a bug in the basic
functionality of the player won't be fixed unless it gets enough
"votes". Surely someone else uses Random Mix followed by a shuffle mode
for their playlists??
I have "shuffle by song" mode enabled. If I play a Random Mix and then
play one of my playlists it shows that "shuffle by song" mode is still
enabled but that is not the case. I can see this by looking at the the
Now Playing list which shows the songs in the playlist in "unshuffled"
order. I us
Pick random mix--then shuffle it! That's what I do if I really want to
be surprised. Like shuffling a deck of cards 10 times.

To me random mix is not really random (squeezebox server 7.6.1 on
linux). Many songs in the list belong to the same album.
Am I the only one in that situation? Could this plugin be smarter?

Do the files in question have more than one genre assigned to them? If
so, Random Mix is playing them because one of their genres is in the

I also have issues with the random mix. And SC is worse than any other
MP3 player/Ipod etc that I have ever seen. I have had occasion where
it plays 3 tracks off the same album within a run of 10 "random" songs
(and yes I do have several albums ;)). And it has done this on various

selecting Random Song Mix causes my PC to hang with 100% CPU (slim.exe
goes bananas and has to be terminated manually), this only happens with
Song mix (Album/Artist/Year Mix works fine).
After a bit of testing I've narrowed it down to something to do with
the value of "Now Playing will show
I'm very pleased with the improved performance of Random Mix on
6.5.1--my display doesn't hang much at all between tracks where it used
to hang for 5-10 seconds. It's considerably more usable.
I also think it's "more random". I hate saying things like that, but
I'm hearing songs and stuff that
I chose "Random Mix" in SlimServer, I go to "Select genres to include".
Lots of genres are listed, and I may remove the X or leave it there.
But what does it mean: Are the genres included if I remove the X or if
I leave it?
Further on: There seems to be no way to confirm the choice I make.

I'm not sure how I can achieve this and I suspect it's not possible but

My Squeezeboxes are on random mix pretty much full time. That can give
me an issue if music with bad language is played at an inopportune time
such as when children or 'sensitive' people are in the house.

When using random mix I find that tracks that I have excluded in iTunes
being played even though I have checked that I want these files
ignoring. If I attempt to find these tracks with search or browse they
are hidden so that bit works, so why does Random Mix pick them? Is this

I'm just wondering if I should file a feature request. I've just
discovered the Random Mix option, very nice, but the thing with genre's
is that they're pretty generic and some albums in a genre are very
likely to be unfit for random playing. And of course, there's so much
