I STRONGLY feel that the shipping problems experienced by operators are
pertinent to this reflector. This isn't a "consumer's advocate" page, but
one where these experiences could/should be shared. I think that my loss

Sounds to me like it is DX related as DXpedition usually ship some if not
all of their equipment and DX'er usually send their equipment back to the
factory at least once or twice. I know you young guys do your own repair.

Perhaps, but difficulties in getting DXing radios fixed or shipped from one
point to another are, IMHO, relevant to DXing.
There is more to DXing than turning on the radio---especially if the radio
does not turn on.

This has been another week of remarkable solar activity,
Thousands of ham rigs are shipped via UPS and other carriers all the time...
they all can't be ruined in shipping. I would like to know the failure
rates for radios packed exactly the way they come from the factory.
Personally, I have found that if I use all of the factory rigid foam packing

destroyed my radios. In the original story, I failed to mention that last
year I had sent an Icom-751A back to WA state for repair. The 751A had a
rather common ICOM problem, and that was the frequency display was
