this is completely ridiculous. I am not going to write quite as long as i
did last time, because frankly, i have a lot of work to do, but let me
just say this analogy totally pretends there is no such thing as a
male-dominated America! Men hold the majority of the power, if you call
yoursel

It was YOU who were being racist by ignoring the hundreds of
African-Americans killed and thousands injured in the Bin Ladin
planned and financed truckbombings of the two embassies in Kenya
and Tanzania. Anyone disagree here?
Umm...Many Africans were killed Joe, not African-Americans...

Adrienne and Jake--i think it is safe to say we just disagree. both of
your replies were romantic, ahistorical, and
a way of intellectualizing concrete oppression without any analysis of
the reality we live in. Dualisms, Gylany, and "normative valuation" mask
the reality of systems i prefer
of course discussing is essential. i also think we do need a lot more love
and compassion and yes all righteous people's struggles are based on this.
i did not say anything about cutting love from our lives. i cannot relate
or really graps what you mean by "reveal ourselves as butterflies..."
CONGRATULATIONS, M., ON THE PAPER! IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE WORKING VERY
HARD TO MAKE CHANGE FOR OUR WORLD. KEEP ON FIGHTING; WE (ALONE AND IN

I would look to "Activism that is not one" by Chris Cuomo in her book
Feminism and Ecological Communities and also there were a couple articles
about political change in Greta Gaard's Ecofeminism: Women, Animals and
Nature.

This thread has been so extremely heteronormative and heterosexist.

Angela,
This topic involves everyone and same-sex couples CAN decide to have
children (through pro-creation, adoption, foster care). What do you call
it if the male partner in a heterosexual relationship cannot fertilize a
woman if they still decide to have children? They can adopt, go to a s
Why are people afraid of passion and controversy? We do not have to be
nice or sweet or even considerate, some of these issues affect us
personally and we care about them, that might be why we get charged up. I
would rather leave this list this try to curb my emotions. We should be
fired up
Thanks for making this point, I agree. One thing heterosexual,
anti-homophobic supporters can do is to not even mention their sexuality
and deny themselves the privilege of not being judged by her/his sexuality.

I think individual "liberation" is important and definitely helps us to
survive the conditions we live under (sexism, racism, capitalist

Bertina,
How does someone "let" sexism, racism and poverty happen to them? Yeah we
let rape happen and we let it get in our way to normal, open expression of
our sexuality. Women let men judge them by their looks and we let this get
to us after years of grooming and trying to figure out how
Angela-I have said nothing about your religious beliefs and that played no
part in my saying you sounded like a bigot. I don't care what religion you
believe in or if you do at all. Seems like you are a bit paranoid sweetie.
Again, I said you SOUNDED like a bigot, not that you ARE a bigot.
Except that power is pro-military! Hello? Remember what he said about the
gulf war? Lip service?oil for lives?Powell, although SOME of his politics
are good, most are deadly and would really hurt us (us as in the US but
also people around the world from the Middle East to Latin America). N
Thanks so much, several women have said that to me and I am glad to hear
it! We've got work to do, so much to organize against/for. Do we really
have the time to defend our selves? This whole argument really sharpens my
feelings about how distracted we can get when people begin the backlash.
