from before. They were always within range.

Roland,
I suggest you start by re-checking the VCO voltage readings as specified on
page 61 of the manual. At the time they were done, you ahould have had all
voltages within range. Ask yourself what has changed in the VCO area since
that time - the answer would normally be 'nothing'. You may w
I was told to report back. Ok, I told you-all before that 40 meters wasn't
tuning except on the display. Well I thought all the other bands were tuning.
Looks like 30 meters isn't tuning around either.
I was told by Don to check left on R30. I checked and while tuning noticed

Hello non-neophites!
I'm way over my head in trying to get my K-2 assembled. I have had no kit

experience in electronics (why did I take on this project?)!
Anyway, I'm committed (financially). I'm now encountering the first pr
For some reason now I can't seem to get the S-meter calibrated, or at least
it won't stay where I put it. When I do a S-LO, I set it to just go out...
then when I hit menu to go back to the freq readout, the s-meter will jump
up to about mid-scale.. All this is with no signal input of course..
True you do not have to have a license to take all the tests up to Extra,
BUT,
You do have to take the element that makes up the Technician test, just as
you have to take all the elements after Tech, to then take the Extra test.
You cannot just take one or two elements for a particular level, unle

There is a mod to unsolder one of the wires from one end of the DB9 plug and

this mod. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks, Roy W4WFBNo virus found in this outgoing message.

The max on K2 #4090 was 3.78V, too. I moved on and didn't worry about
it. The radio works great! If it was more than .5V difference, I
probably would have been more concerned.

Tim,
Actually that troubleshooting section of the manual is incorrect - the gain
of the receiver will increase if you DECREASE the AGC THRESHOLD voltage.
The really optimized voltage for the AGC Threshold is the highest voltage
that shows no change in internal noise (no antenna connected) when cha

Hello all!
I, WA3WSJ, will be in Delaware to activate the Lightship Overfalls and I

Hello Tim,
I had the same experience. Mine was max 3.78V but it seems nothing to worry
about. I do agree that the given figures and the real ones don't give the
right feeling. I was worried as well. It would haven been "better" to have
the real figures somewhere midway the lower and maximum limits
The overall receiver gain of the K2 I just built (serial number 4993) seems
low as compared with my older serial number 315 K2.
The max AGC threshold voltage I can get is 3.82 volts. (3.8 is what is
called for in alignment and Test Part I), but the troubleshooting section
says you can increase th

My condolences to his family and to those who knew him personally.

Roland,
As a sanity check, re-check the voltage at the left end of R30 while tuning
40 meters, it should not be constant. If it is constant, the VCO is not
tuning. If you have no tuning on 40 meters but the rest of the bands tune
fine, the most probable component at fault is C71 in the VFO Range
This is very sad news. Pauli was a gentleman, a real pleasure to do
business with. My condolences to his wife and family.
