No, I didn't miss any of the rest of your post. I merely commented
further on the key click problems of today's modern rigs.
BTW, Elecraft is the only manufacturer who admitted there was a click

Y'know what catches my ear, especially when a signal is very weak: chirp! A
little chirp stands out like nothing else to my hearing. And it's usually an
interesting rig at the other end .
Any detectable chirp seems to drive some of today's ARRL "Official
Observers" into near apoplexy but I enjoy
Hi Charlie,
I have a Pelican 1400 for my K2.
Just enough room left for a mini-paddle and some connectors.
No need to put it sideways. Just put the rig over the foam, and cut.
Connectors on the right side, buttons on the left, or vice-versa.
BTW, I install it upside down : easier to pull the rig out
Darrell,
That has ben dropped from the more recent handbook (does not appear in my
2005 edition).
I am going 'out on a limb' here by saying that this stems from the concept
that 'some keyclicks are good' philosophy. Sidebands on a CW signal are the
result of the keying shape, and there is more to
It's midnight in Ohio and I just worked a bunch of West Coast
stations on the QRP calling freq of 7040. K2 is sweet. All stations
were QRP...the KDSP was indispensable.
Remarkable, in fact, how you can really dig the signals out of the mud.
If anyone is into QRP and is thinking about the

include the mod, and they are among the most click-free of rigs today, with
clicks extending only about +/-200 Hz from

They will say "I (Heart) my K1, K2 or KX1" and it's serial number.

I've wondered that myself. CW is made up of two separate periodic
waveforms ... one is symmetric (the dits) and one is asymmetric (the
dahs) and they occur in a more or less random sequence. For a given

Don't worry Justin, more than a few of us have the very same geekiness problem

I've been working the problem, and my plan is to go to the base nearby and
see if I can scrounge up any MARS operators. I know of one, but he's just a

back and redid the alignment with spectrogram in logarithm display mode

I suspect several (probably many) have already beat me to the punch

Yes, it's quite easy to change the sidetone and filters to a
