The K3's VFO A knob is custom machined from aluminum. It's much larger
than the K2's VFO knob, and includes a rubber ring and tuning dimple.

I fully understand your concerns here. This is an issue we had planned
to address anyway.
The K3 has software-defined features in the sense that the DSP is
very easily upgradeable (one-click PC application), and powerful, and
can handle future operating modes or signal processing
I haven't tried putting a K3 VFO A knob on a K2. It's quite a bit
larger, which means it would overlap the LCD's bottom edge, and would
likely interfere with the knobs at the left.
The K3's VFO B knob is smaller than the K2's present VFO A knob.
Now, all that said, we should be able to design

Wayne will have to answer whether Elecraft will be doing the work required
to apply a CE mark. I am not sure it is required since the K3 is powered
off of 12 volts. The K3 will meet all RoHS requirements.
