It's a mistake to think that a tone deaf person has any trouble zero

immaterial.
The trick is to know how to hear the beat note. One doesn't care what the
frequency of the signal is or whether it's any where near

I find the K2 and other modern rigs hard to zero, as I
have NO tone matching judgment.
What I do is jump between cw and cw reverse until I cant
hear any difference, that sometimes takes some time
The homebrew receiver is easy though, I turn the bfo on
and adjust the tuning till I get below
The first problem I can think of regarding Ethernet use in this
case is all the birdies! I've got strong birdies at home around 14.030

Tone matching judgment - depending on what you're referring to, nobody
has it.
Most people can identify which of two tones is higher or lower if they
have enough pitch separation. As they get closer in pitch, people's
ability to tell high or low (sharp or flat) goes away. At that point
you have
Hi All,
Finally, as of today July 12th, Italian Amateur Radio
operators will be roaming around the 70 MHz band,
although for a limited experimental period and limited
frequencies spots. Please see below notice

Thanks to all who responded - I now officially have too many options!
I didn't know about the RV converter solution; I like that idea
and will keep my eye out for a reasonably priced unit for a real

I'm leaning toward getting a normal 30A supply in the short term, since

If I connect a K3/100, a 2 meter rig, a 140 Amp Hour deep discharge
battery, and the AA Engineering 5 Amp Smart Charger, all in
parallel, my understanding is that it would work fine.
The key here is that the AA Engineering Smart Charger is already
protected against becoming a load if
Paul,
That is correct, the AA Smartcharger may become a light load (175uA)
when off, but I see no reason to ever turn it off if you have a battery
connected to it.
A word of caution about batteries - while the gel cells can be safely
used in an unvented area, a deep discharge battery (or

I don't know what the fascination is with zero beating the guy
you're calling.
Although my elmer told me of similar tales when he was starting out, he
taught me that the purpose of at least near zero-beating was to not
take up more bandwidth than necessary. You're not running a full-duplex

Hi All,
I am having trouble getting the shaft encoder to function and, therefore, the
frequency to change along with all other encoder functions. I posted this
before and got no response. So I thought I'd try again.

Bill,
Do you have 5 volts on encoder pin 1?
If you have a scope, can you see any negative going pulses on encoder
pin 4? If no 'scope, how does the DC voltage at Front Panel U3 pin 14
compare to the voltage in the DC voltage chart at the end of the manual?
If you have a 'scope, you can look
Wet (flooded) cell charging in an enclosed space is certainly a concern,
what with the vented hydrogen oxygen gases. The HydroCap Corp. in
Miami developed a solution many years ago which has been used in marine,
solar industrial installations where charging gases might accumulate.

I just ordered a K2. I was * *seduce like many others when the K3 was
announced but the one thing that really bothered me was that it was not
a kit. Having built the K1 I really miss not having a board under my
iron. I also realized that the K2 was far more radio then I have ever
owned. I will
Hi All,
Sorry for the bandwidth, but does anyone know if there is a way you can check
to see which Production Run of the K3 you are in.
I've just noticed that current orders are now scheduled for Oct-Nov, but I
can't remember what it was when I placed my order last month ?? I know I could

I am told that if you turn the speed down to 10Bt, most of that will go away.
Depending on the application, you may not notice the speed difference.

If you ordered at or after Dayton you're in the third run. That was almost
two months ago, so that sounds like when you ordered.

Are you basing this statement on hard evidence, or is it perhaps
speculation? I ask because I ordered on line and received a confirmation

I'm looking at the dates again and hadn't realized #2 and #3 were Sept and
Oct. I was thinking #3 was Sept/Oct.
So I was going by my memory of what was being told to people in Dayton
(which I thought was Sept or Oct) so that could've been #2.
Sorry about that.
