After growing tired of plugging/unplugging my SignaLink cable and hand mic
when switching from digital modes to SSB, I'm trying to find a more elegant
solution.
I'd like a commercial product, however, the MFJ mic switches seem to get
so-so reviews and the NCS Multi-Switch seems way overkill for t

I believe the meter you are trying to use is intended for AC powerline
measurements. No telling what it will do with DC. I expect that if you
repeat the measurement using a DVM in a DC current mode you will get a more
meaningful result.

I would have expected something similar, if not zero.
I always wondered why I heard a 'pop' from the speaker (audio amp?) when I
plugged the K3 in with the power off.
Could be related - a leaky cap charging?

I get about 4.5mA with my K3/100 powered off. Assuming you've checked the
obvious (i.e. that there's nothing else connected to the power supply), is it
possible your ammeter is defective or needs new batteries?

Not sure... I remember seeing only 0.8 A when the power switch was ON!

Hello,
Have you always wanted an Elecraft? A KX1, K1, K2, K3, whatever? I build
them all! See what my clients have said about my construction and
service work at http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/6768
I also build and service all the QRP radios from Small Wonder Labs. See

I've decided to sell my K2. It is the 10 watt base model with KSB2 SSB
adapter, Finger dimple, KIO2 serial interface, KAT2 auto-tuner, and the
Rework Eliminator mic board. This unit is brand new, essentially never

Probably the biggest variant in how to think about this is that in an analog
transmitter you start with a badly flawed signal which needs to be cleaned
up. The filter attenuates sideband energy (clicks) from a waveform which
was already distorted at the point where the RF was keyed.
In the K3 and

However, on 2m (K144XV) there is a discrepancy between the K3 S

One cause is related to the placement of the CW frequency in relation to the
filter passband. If skewed to the edge of a sharp filter, a severely
distorted waveform will develop. A CW waveform is a quasi square wave and

Tom W8JI was dealing with analog transceivers when that was written.

I was reading W8JI's article http://www.w8ji.com/what_causes_clicks.htm but

transmitting CW) conflicts with the K3 manual, which says:

Chris,
In all probability, the little plastic lever which operates the switch
inside the headphone jack has broken. It usually fails with no speaker,
but it can fail either way.
It is a bit of a pain, but you can shut off the speaker by plugging an
empty jack into the external speaker jack o

IF OUT uses VFO A so a hardware mod must be added for VFO B in the KRX3 to
have an IF OUT. N2QT has described a mod to do this below:

Just bought a new K2 #4913. All is great, however, inserting a
headphone doesn't cut off the speaker. The headphone plug is a standard
3.5 mm plug. The schematics show the plug should cut the speaker.
Is there an internal parameter that needs setting? If not what's the
easy way to access
Jim,
I am not sure what you mean by "track".
The P3 will show the VFO B frequency with the magenta cursor. See
"Using Cursors" in the P3 manual.
If you mean -- display the output of the subRX, that is not possible
without a mod to the SubRX - there is no IF output from the sub.

If you do not have professional de-soldering equipment, cut the leads of
the switch and remove the pieces one at a time. Do not try to salvage
the old switch, that does not make sense considering the value of the
rest of the board.
