[Elecraft] [K3] short circuit at power terminals

Yikes! My reliable K3-10 has developed a short circuit across the power input terminals. Well, to be exact, not quite a dead short. It measures 0.6 ohms across the PowerPole connectors. It most certainly does blow fuses on the input line. Any suggestions for trouble shooting? And also for

I also believe it is better to remove it and the extract the pins one at a time. A method that I've used many times is to slowly and gently rock the part back and forth. First you will only get very little movement but with metal fatigue it increases. Eventually with care it breaks off cleanl

If you reversed RP1, 2 or 3 then you are OK. But RP5 has one side of all the resistors connected together and to pin 1! Look at the schematic and you'll see this. There doesn't seem to be a RP4. One way to remove it is to cut all the pins with flush cutters and then take them out one at a ti

Im no contester or DXer, but generally the KX3 seems to pull signals out of the noise with narrowing filter width better than the several k2 units Ive used. The noise also seems less harsh. I havent found the APF to my liking, it seems to ring too much compared to just narrowing down the passband.

I have both but did not make A/B comparisons. K2's filters are not too sharp but they pick up weak signals very well. But may be overwhelmed by strong signals nearby. K2 has excellent AGC. KX3 has much steeper filters and even APF. Also continuously adjusted. So probably KX3 would do much better
