Hi Jim
I don't have any LDG meters anymore but do have others a digital in my
Palstar HF-Auto tuner, an Alpha 4510 and a Palstar DL2K dummy
load/wattmeter. My K3 set at 50w the HF-Auto read 48w, the Alpha 4510 49w on
analog/digital meters both and the dummy load 41w. If you have a bird to
place
Yes - have been using the K3/Titan III combination for several years with no
problems. Not using any ALC connection of course.

However after playing with it I have gone back using scroll arrows and/or mouse

I to have had similar issues with the PF2 touch keyer. For whatever reason, it
is unusable in my shack as it is currently set up. It works just perfect for a
while, then goes haywire. Others swear by it and it does have a very
interesting action. You almost get the sensation that the finger

approach to slowing it down for super slow speed work is to go to your

Yes, K3 'Key Out' to Titan 'PTT/VOX' only.
I don't use the 'Key In/Key Out' QSK feature on the Titan, but I have slowed
the K3 Tx Delay to 12mS (CONFIG:TX DLY:12) although the Titan relays are
probably fast enough for the K3 default setting of 8mS.

I wonder if Ross has checked the possible short-circuits on the back of the

This was a mystery for me building a K2, and only remedied by placing a sheet

I would trust a Bird43 meter to be more accurate (but even they only
claim 5% of full range). I have compared my 1976 era Bird43 with one
that is only a couple years old using the same element and had 10%
disagreement in readings using a Bird dummy load. My old meter read
lower in power.
Without tearing my rig apart, how can I tell if I have the KXV3 or KXV3A
installed? I know I have one or the other.

You could remove the left side panel and look for the two TMP sockets facing
out of the end of the KXV3A. These are for the K144XV. If you have the KXV3,
there will be no TMP sockets.
See the K144XV installation manual. There is a photo, showing the TMP sockets
on the KXV3A, on p13.

Hi Paula,
Do you have a separate receive only antenna connected to the KXV3A RX IN BNC
connector. If yes, then you are possibly hearing the COR (carrier operated
relay) protecting the receiver front end from overload. Disconnect the
antenna connector and see if the noise stops.

Do you mean the PWR button to the left of the hole or the power on/off switch?

The easiest way to check for a bad U1 (not likely unless it was damaged
by static) is to replace it with one known to be working.
The other way is to make the DC measurements - use the chart near the
end of the instructions.
See if the RXC, TXC, RXS, and TXS signals are being developed
