Hello Douglas. Take a look at page 89 of the April 2007 issue of QST. You
can boot your computer into Linux using a 2 GB USB flash drive with Mandriva
Linux on it. According to the article you can download the software free and
put it on your own flash drive or you can buy it already on the flas
Mine is usually set at about 8 o'clock and it is quite loud. The audio drops
a lot if I disable the DSP. I'm using my K2 only for SSB.

Johnny,
Here are the KDSP2 settings I am using. I'm sure they are not optimum but I
am happy with the performance I get. There is quite a bit of QRM here on 80m
SSB and the KDSP2 suppresses most of it so the voice is readable.

coatings on the
thermal pads seem to scratch easily. Mine have a couple of minor scratches
that go thru the black. Does this reduce their ability to conduct heat away?
Should I replace them? Thanks.

Hello everyone. I almost made it to the finish line with my K2. I'm
encountering a problem with the KPA100 SWR Bridge Null Adjustment (C1). I have
everything hooked up correctly as far as I can determine. I set the power knob
for 5.0 W. Enter tune mode and adjust C1 to get 1.0-1 SWR on the K2 d
vdc on the
meter.

Thanks Don. I think the VCO voltage is too low at 5000kHz. At 5300 kHz it

hearing some internally generated low frequency and nothing else. The
frequency changes a little bit when I attach the DMM lead to R30. Thanks for
your help.

Hello everyone. I installed a 60 meter board last night and it seems to have a
problem. When I entered 5000 kHz I had what sounds like a loud oscillator sound
on the audio. I turned on another radio and had WWV loud and clear at 5000 kHz
in that radio. When I increase the frequency the oscillato
Hello everyone. I'm having a problem calibrating the dial on my K2. I followed
the procedure by Wayne to set the master oscillator with C22 on the control

There is a new item from MFJ that people may find helpful when interfacing a
mic to the K2. Its an MFJ-655 mic equalizer/conditioner/preamp that is
supposed to interface any mic to just about any rig. It takes two types of
mic connectors and the jumpering is done in the MFJ-655. You can use the
Also Cary, don't forget to go into the menu (might be secondary menu) and
set D19 to Y to enable 60 meter band.

Hi everyone. I just finished aligning my K2 with Spectrogram and part of it was
aligning the I.F stage using L34. The manual says to set the slug 1 turn down
from the top and adjust for the largest difference between the internal signal
at 7 MHz and the noise around it. Well, I found that the be

Has anyone used toroids from the 'Toroid Guy' to build a K2? Are his wound
better or neater than someone can do by hand (I assume his are machine wound)?
Is it worthwhile to buy his? Thanks.

Hi Phil. There is a new item from MFJ you might want to look at. I think its
an MFJ-655 microphone equilizer/conditioner that will adapt almost any mic
with either a round plug or modular to any radio. It has jumpers that can be

Does anyone know if the Elecraft T1 tuner would be a good tuner to use with the

Hello everyone. I just joined the group lately and have been reading some of
your emails. So far I have built a T1, KX1 # 1192, K2/100 # 5022 and several
of the mini kits. I'm just starting K1 #2157. Everything worked ok except the
K2 SSB board. I ended up having to buy another one to get it to
