I don't remember but someone a week or so ago was talking about vfo tuning
rates and using the RIT knob for tuning with RIT off.
I've set the RIT for 0.5kc rate. This allows you to leave VFO in in fine rate
and use the RIT knob for coarse/fast qsy or band scanning.

Im always fiddling with attenuator and rf gain.
I was listening to some activity on 20 & 40 and began playing with agc
settings.

I too have a new noise at my no noise qth. I'm not using the dsp NB but the
I.F. Noise blanker set to MED4 and totally takes it off the speakers AND off
the s meter.

Fred, I don't believe there is any reason to turn agc off anymore with the
newer firmware that allow for more threshold.
It is sometimes a advantage to ride the rf gain to make a signal more easy to
copy and the noise easier on the ears.
A quiet antenna helps too. My hy gain hytower vertica

Did anyone mention the NorCal Qrp dipole made from 4 conductor computer ribbon?
It forms the dipole and parrarel feedline including support loop. Fishing
swivels can be used as additional hardware.

I've been putting up with this hiss on receive for two years. Others have
complained as well. It sounds like a rushing wind. Kinda like old cassette tape
hiss. It's the dirty little secret no one wants to talk about and the first
thing that comes up on other forums when you mention k3. The most

A few weeks ago there was talk of 4 conductor plugs for kx3 from mouser.
If the female and male are available, I'm thinking of trying the I phone

My k3/10 puts out slightly more. Sometimes 9 or 9.5 watts equals 10.
Since that drives the 100w pa I would expect a greater amount at 100w.
I just figured it had to do with compression on ssb. Try it with zero
compression. Also advise how much more it's putting out.

It's not in the manual but I've seen it suggested here that 1-x thru 4-x is for
cw and 5-x and up for ssb.
I used to use 5-1 or 2 but now liking
6-1 to 6-3 so if your using 1 or 2 on ssb, try 5 or 6.

I run the attenuator on just about ever band to reduce the band noise floor. I
wish for a stronger attenuator. That would take the rf gain and meter issue out
of the equation, or a rf gain that doesn't make the meter sit on s9.
I don't know if either is easy to implement. Maybe I need to change

Congrats on ordering the new rig.
You'll want to download the k3 utility from the Elecraft website. If your
computer has a rs-233 port, that is the best way to communicate to the k3.
You'll need a straight thru cable.
If you only have a USB port, I highly recommend getting the KUSB cable from
