I would consider that myself, but only with one recommended by the good
people at Elecraft. The fan in the KPA is VERY loud when it hits the
last two speeds. Wa

Thanks to all who replied. If I did not have to cut a hole in the sheet

to a minimum speed as suggested and see how that works out keeping the
air moving all the time.

Yes, quite normal. The KPA500 is very well protected, while still
allowing as much power output as possible. I do lots of RTTY contesting

Sounds normal for mine. I've recently had mine on 52.525 in an FM QSO. I ended
up at about 250W with short transmissions. That didn't surprise me much at all,
because my KPA seems to produce quite a bit of heat on six meters anyway. Hit

has gone to 747 short field take off mode at about 71C. Am I missing

On page 23 of my KPA500 assembly manual, relating to the mounting of the
rectifier board, it is clear that thermal insulators must isolate the
rectifiers from the chassis, and also, that insulating "shoulder washers"
must be installed in the four places that you mention as your concern.

Gary,
Try to put a 4-40 screw into the holes. If it goes through, it is a 1/8
inch hole (clearance for 4-40 screws), but if it must be threaded in,
all is well. A threaded hole for 4-40 will look almost like a 1/8 inch
hole.
Yes, the holes should be threaded for 4-40.

I'm assembling a KPA-500 that I received today and I'm at the step where
I mount the Rectifier bd to the Z-bracket. It looks like the 4 holes for
mounting the rectifiers should be threaded for 4-40 screws but mine has
about 1/8" holes. There is no mention of using a screw and nut to mount

Looking at specs show SWR <2:1 and 160-10M.
Could live with not having 6M but the 2:1 SWR spec may be unacceptable.
