Talk top Keith who does tech stuff for Elecraft.
This started happening after I put my 2M module in... Then I slipped
with a screwdriver and shorting a resister so Keith fixed it all for me.
Not sure WHY it was throwing High CURR, but he got it all fixed up a
couple of years ago. :)

Pete,
Connect a dummy load to the K3 (alone) and see if it still has the problem.
If the K3 alone is OK, then connect the KAT500 and put the DL on one of
the ports - do a TUNE and then try transmitting. If OK, then try
another KAT500 output and repeat.
Cables are easily checked by connecting
Suddenly I've begun getting these messages after transmitting,
especial;ly on 10 MHz. Only change in my station is that I added a
borrowed KAT-500 tuner to my K-3 while my KPA-1500 was back at
Watsonville. I surmised that the problem might be due to defective
cables, so I've been changing th

Good morning all. Merry Christmas.
After installing a new KXV3B board on my K3 I now, on power up, get a HI
RFI msg. Any thoughts on where I might look without having to tear it all
apart.?
Thanks !

Problem originated on 6M(affects all bands) when ATU was being used to Tweak

Ok what was the fix, or did I miss you posting details.

Hello,
I am back with more info after some investigations on my K3/100: No power
output after showing HI RFI message on the screen.
RF indicator at 0. I must mention that I encounter this situation after I
try to work with a homebrew linear amplifier (with tubes)

Hello,
I have a problem with my K3. After using a liniar amplifier I've got "HI
RFI" message on K3. After that there is no power output.
Receive it seems ok.
Any suggestions will be very much appreciated!

Hi Lyle,
Having the HI RFI detection and warning message is great. If I ever
saw it, my first reaction would be to turn the K3 off. Does turning
the rig off provide any more protection from the high RF levels than
what the built-in protection circuits do when operating?

Hello Lee!
The HI RFI message is informing you that there is a problem in the
station which is resulting in potentially damaging levels of RF being
applied to the K3 receiver.
This could be due to another transmitting radio's antenna(s) being too
close, someone accidentally connecting their tr

I think the bottom line is what the receiver front end was designed to "handle"

This doesn't
mean this solution won't have possible intermod problems in fringe high RF
enviornments of FD, but you won't lose a front end. FWTW.

A shorted 1/4 wl stub (~46' of Vf 0.66 coax) on the Orion 80m output would
have given ~30 dB of attenuation on 40m. For best results stubs should be
tuned to exact resonance using an analyzer (most tell you how to do this).
If you have been reading the reflector for the past couple of days, the K3 we
were using got a HI RFI message on the screen. Yes, the books says that
someone is feeding the K3 more RF than it needs in the antenna terminals. The
books states 1 or 2 watts is all that it will take.
Yes, this is

Lee,
I would check the antennas and feedlines first. Don't overlook those short
pieces of coax interconnecting things in the shack. They can't fix that kind
of problem in Aptos.

We received a HI RFI message on the K3. Now it is down in RX...seems to be
