Mode selection on KX3 is AFSK A and cocoaModem setup is matched to the KX3

I tried to copy the latest software update for a KX3 & PX3 to a USB memory
stick and could only find a zip file for a Bata load. Where are the zip

I removed the Elecraft cable and then a few minutes later I reconnected the
cable back to the radio.

A year or so ago, I performed the temperature compensation routine on my
KX3, with the goal of being able to use it with WSJT modes like JT65,
JT9, MSK144. I loaned it to W6JTI for his expedition to CM79, and acted
as his pilot, monitoring him on the air from his home a few miles away.

Did you pull the rubber cover off the knob? There’s a hex screw under there.
It may have loosened enough for the knob to slip up on the shaft far enough to
be free wheeling. You can adjust the tension by pressing the knob closer to

Here I am at work, my KX3 arrived, and I opened the box.
I had ordered the assembled radio with the NiCad/RTC option.
I presume I can wait till I get home.. But,

Actually, you can update the PDF version of Elecraft manuals. This is a
great (IMHO) way to keep track of firmware changes. I can carry all the
annotated manuals with me during portable/mobile expeditions for the
eventuality of a memory failure (mine, not the rigs'). It also saves a lot
of trees
The nice thing about the PDF manual is you can have it on your phone or
tablet and it is always with you. Also you can search it.

My old KX3 (S/N 763) is a great performer but I'm concerned about the
"responsiveness" of the AF/RF Squelch encoder knob. The VFO (?) knobs (A and B)
work great and the response to turns is immediate. If I turn the AF gain

probably have the preamp engaged. If I recall correctly, there are
recommendations in the User Manual regarding the preamp.
