That means the power is not shutting off. We bleed off the capacitor charge through the fan at front panel shutdown, which is why you hear the fan run for normally a short time. Turn off the KPA using the rear pane switch and call tech support in the morning. They need to look into this one.

While getting ready for the Elecraft net today my KPA500 would not transmit. In bypass mode swr is 1:1. When placing in operate mode I get no output with my K3 showing high swr. Tried my loop,  vertical, and Hex beam. All show low swr on the K3, KAT500 and the KPA500 in bypass.  I took the KAT

I should have added that the alarm is also available on the PC serial interface. Interrogating the KPA500 with ^FL; will return the current fault value in the form ^FLnn; where nn is a 2 digit number indicating the current fault (00 for no fault). It would be possible to use this fault report

Yes, improperly or incorrectly using ALC with any amp or any transceiver, for that matter,  can and usually does produce distortion and splatter.   Just look at some of the signals on the bands and observe the ALC overshoot which exists with many radios.   And it is made worse by the addition
