The 110 Volt AC will be fine and draw 9 amps key down — within a 15 amp
circuit breaker with plenty for more uses. If VSWR is ok then RG-8X is
fine. I have used LMR-240 as well but is intended for higher frequencies
up to UHF.

antenna, and can pick up RF along its path from the antenna to the radio. The
best example is a vertical antenna which will use any metal it can find for
return currents, which includes the coax after the antenna-mounted

That will tell you whether the KPA500 is OK - and if so, you should
investigate your antenna impedances - measure with an antenna analyzer.

I don't think fan is set to high speed to bleed down the 60 V supply. I think
it is set to low speed but may revert to high speed when the firmware shuts
down with 60 V

Your analysis is spot on. When the KPA is requested to shut down it does some
housekeeping, saving various things and putting the amp into a safe condition,
including setting the 60V to off. It then sets the fan for full speed operation
to bleed off the 60V power and waits for

Maybe clarify. I think Jack's concern is that your fan was running even
with the power off. That's not the case, right? The fan just came back on
full when you turned the power back on?
Try Menu, scroll down to FAN CTL and make sure that say NOR. If it has a
number instead, you somehow
That means the power is not shutting off. We bleed off the capacitor charge
through the fan at front panel shutdown, which is why you hear the fan run for
normally a short time.
Turn off the KPA using the rear pane switch and call tech support in the
morning. They need to look into this one.

I should have added that the alarm is also available on the PC serial
interface. Interrogating the KPA500 with ^FL; will return the current fault
value in the form ^FLnn; where nn is a 2 digit number indicating the current
fault (00 for no fault).

The alarm signal is available on AUX1 connector pin 7 and is pulled low when
an alarm is active. I have it permanently connected to my data logger and have
used it as a trigger for my storage 'scope. It could be used to drive an
external alarm of any sort that you chose.

TS-590SG.
The alarm that sounds when the amp faults (rarely) is impossible to hear
when wearing headphones.

Thanks for that. I never understood the Ameritron ALC instruction for my
ALS-600 so I just never used the ALC. That attached instruction was much
clearer and made sense.
