I recently put my K line station together K3S, KAT500, KPA500, P3. They are all
working great! I have added a brand new W2 watt meter. It came with version
1.0 firmware which from what I understand has not changed in many years and is
the latest version. I was testing my new W2 watt meter and
I don't know, but it would be easy to try with a coil of Ethernet cable
and some resistors.
The question is, why do you want to do this? You can easily compute the
real SWR and power at the feedpoint based on the reading in the station
and the transmission line loss from the cable specs.

Hi,
I have a W2 with an HF coupler and I am entertaining the idea of putting it

a limit on the cable length? If so, what is it?
Thanks and 73.

Joe,
The telling answer is in your statement "the radio has an internal ATU".
The radio is showing the SWR between the radio and the ATU.
The wattmeter is showing you the SWR after the ATU - in other words, the
SWR of the untuned antenna. So there may be nothing wrong.
Connect a dummy load
My wattmeter seems to be displaying the wrong SWR on the LEDs. I bought a
digital display unit on line. The radio has an internal ATU. The radio says
tuned 1.0 - 1. when I key the radio says 1.0 - 1 and the DDU says .16 SWR but
the LEDs show 1.5 - 1. So if I hit 1.2 - 1 the LEDs all flash so
I tried this again with exactly the same setup and now it works. I still
don't know what the original problem was as all the hardware is identical.

I have a W2 wattmeter that seems to have failed. its powers up (leds flash on
for a moment) but then almost immediately shuts down. any thoughts on what may
be on the blink or something that I can look at?

Michael,
In general, digital wattmeters have the same accuracy at any point on
the scale - unlike analog wattmeters for which the accuracy is stated as
a percentage of the full scale reading. On a 20 watt scale, a 25% error
would be up to 4 watts!
You might want to look at the specs for
OK so I am trying to measure around 5 Watts or so on the W2's 20 Watt
scale. The spec's for the W2 directional couplers are listed at 0.5 dB
accuracy. Is this anywhere or just at full scale? How much could it be off at
only 25% of full scale?
Trying to decide if the 2.8 Watts I am
The only way to get the answer you wish is to compare it to a bench
standard like a bird watt meter.
Beyond that you are just guessing. Sorry

That would depend on what kind of digital you are talking about. I don't
think the W2 reads instantaneous peak power. That usually takes special
circuitry to do . Hint: a digital slug for a bird 43 wattmeter costs way
more than the meter does. Analog meters will not read properly in a
digital
I just purchased a new Yaesu digital handheld and the power level on the
440 band is low (2.8 v 5.0 Watts), and was wondering if I can trust the W2's
accuracy? Another mobile higher powered transceiver also reads low on all
power levels on the 440 band.
I built the kit version of the W2

Dave,
Certainly, just find a switch that can switch all the wires of an
Ethernet cable and you will be in business.
Of course, you would have to operate the switch manually unless you can
come up with some scheme to operate the switch when each transverter is
powered on.

I have a K3 with three XV series transverters (144, 222, 432). Each
transverter feeds a power amp and connects to an
To those who write software (not me.. .I just use it).
Is there any chance that we could have a 'compact' version of the W2
software display just like we have for the KPA500?
Just a thought.
