That would likely indicate that the dot and dash contacts of the paddle
are shorted together.
Make sure the Stereo plug is fully inserted into the Paddle jack.
If it persists, insert a stereo plug with no wires connected (use TX

If your K3 is connected to your computer for logging or rig control

I think he was referring to the radio being off, and not the computer.
If the PTT line is being momentarily pulled to ground when the plug is
inserted, it may flicker into XMIT momentarily. Not going to hurt anything.
If it’s staying on, that’s a different story.

Yes, I would suspect a faulty solder connection before anything else. Since
it is confined to 40 meters and happens with a dummy load, I would look in
the 40 meter low pass filter area first - especially for poorly tinned
toroid leads.

I know this is a little late for the contest, but if you're using the RTTY
decode within the K3, it defaults to 75 baud (100 WPM). You need to change
that to decode 60 WPM, which is the standard.

On page 32, KE7X offers that key combination for "initializing
parameters to the default setting." I'm not sure if that applied to my
situation, but I was trying everything. I used that combination to get
the radio to communicate with the Elecraft utility. I had done some

It may be that the driver IC for the LEDs has been damaged. There is 5
volts on the LEDs, but the driver IC has to bring the other lead near
zero volts to light the LED.
If you did not work on an anti-static mat when doing the connector
change, that may be the blame.
But just the same
You will have to do one of two things:
Obviously your K1 is setup for 80 khz of VFO range.
You will have to set it up for 150 khz. of VFO rangeOR.change the band
crystal.
If you assembled it yourself, you should have a "spare" crystal for the 30
meter band to do that.

You don't need a highly accurate frequency counter. You can get closer
with the beat note method.
You can use an audio spectrum analyzer (like Spectrogram or SpectrumLab)
running on your computer and the K3S rear headphone jack connected to
your soundcard Line In.
That will give you

I prefer to use CW mode with CWT active . Tune the radio to one of the
WWV frequencies. Thn press and release SPOT. This will match the
sidetone to the WWV carrier and adjust the radio to the corr
Using WWV as a reference for precision frequency calibration is a bad idea.
Propagation creates doppler effect. WWVB is better but still not perfect. A
cheap GPS reference is the best (but still not perfect) option.

Glad you found the information of assistance. I suggest a bit longer
warm up than 30 minutes, but for starters, 30 minutes is OK. I usually
go for 1 hr to 2 hrs in a temperature stable environment.
But...that's just me.
