I just got a mesa 5i25 I have successfully used this computer, motherboard K8T890, for almost 2 years to run my table top mill If I plug the 5i25 in it does not show up in the hardware list When the pc boots, part of the post is a screen showing all installed hardware The 5i25 is not in that list

Is your PC now finding the 5i25 card when you do lspci ?? If not, you will never get anything to load onto the card since the PC doesn't recognize that the card exists. If lspci doesn't show the card you should probably try the card in a different PC and see if the OS recognizes the card.

I'd say the contra-torque statement says that one of the gears is split 'horizontally' (seen when it lays on the table) and the main motor drives the one while an auxiliary applies a constant torque on the other in oposite direction. And so: no backlash. For direction change the motors change
