I worked for a company where we did 'market open software'.
We sold Asterisk based VOIP telephone PBX systems.
They were 'white box' hardware (generic, nothing special) systems,
with Linux, Asterisk, and other support software all installed,
integrated, configured for the customers.
There was NO

'Selling free software' is hard.
What a vendor 'sells' isn't open or free software. It is services. It
is hardware. It is integration. It is training. It is support.
Basically, it is time.
It is NOT software. It can be 'glue' software they write, or 'customization'.

Gentlemen,
Just how do you 'market' a free item/product? The free LinuxCNC software
is not even a loss leader. The whole thing is free - all the time - even
the advice - even the help.
Just asking.
thanks

Thanks all for you help. I was able to configure this fairly easily. The
only issue I had was initially I was setting the maxaccel and maxvel values
on the hardware steppers. This was causing joint following errors. I found
that if I would set the following error (FERROR) absurdly high like 100 it

Oh, I should mention that I have been using EMC since 1998, and have not
had one crash since mid 1998! So, that is coming up on 14 years of use!
(There was a bug that caused the GUI to lock up back in early 1998, but
it still finished the part perfectly.)

Oh, and of course, whenever working on HAL and .ini files, you want to

I'm running 2.4.3. I'll give it a try and see if it works for this version.
I'll report back once I've tried it.
Thanks!!

As usual, the folks on this list have been extremely helpful to track
down problems - Thanks! :-)
Les N. originally came up with this version of the tool change program.
But I'll edit the file according to the suggestions, try it out, and
then re-upload the file to the Wiki server so we have
Hi
Have now had a play with this and found how to get it working with 2.5
Comment out the lines
#iniFile = emc.ini(os.environ['INI_FILE_NAME'])
#emc.nmlfile = s.path.join(os.path.dirname(os.environ['INI_FILE_NAME']),
#iniFile.find("EMC", "NML_FILE"))
Change the lines
emcStat = emc.stat();

Thanks Jeff. I will definitely change the name of the file. And I will
try removing the references to NML_FILE and see what happens.

I think the whole LinuxCNC-community could benefit from automated
interpreter+trajectory-control tests. These would be G-code programs

Hi
I am no python expert, but a couple of things jump out at me.
There has been no reference under [EMC] NML_FILE= in the ini file
since v2.4
Indeed if it is not commented out , EMC will fail to start with multiple
errors.
So the call iniFile.find("EMC", "NML_FILE")) will fail on v2.4 and ab
