Thanks to everyone for your advice. It turned out to be a non-issue, as I
brought my gear to the morning games and the "borrower" didn't show up.
After shooting 2 games in 116 degree heat, I opted not to bring my camera to
the afternoon finals...he was there, but neither of us mentioned the camera

I've used this combination when I had to, & there are a few factors to
consider.
First of all, there is a difference with the 2x and without, or with the 1.4
instead. It simply will not be as sharp. OTOH, it will help you get some
shots you wouldn't otherwise.

You can let him shoot a few frames after putting the neck strap around his
neck, doing this while you're with him all the time. Not much risk then, I
guess.

The EF 300/4 IS is in good condition, some scratches on the body
but the optics are in great shape. Tripod mount included, as well
as a Nikon Hardcase.
The EF 2x TC is as new, comes with original box and papers.
