are housing a bunch of public folders that were here way before I got here.
I've sent messages out asking for folders that are definitely used to get a
better idea, but I don't think anyone really knows what's good and wh

I have been using Mailbox Manager for a bit now, however I find I would like
to audit/delete Msgs that are older than X days which haven't been read.
Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this, or a tool/script
that could do it ?
Any help would be great

The application event log on one of my servers is inundated with ID 1103 &
1106 relating to a background cleanup of the pub. I searched the KB on the
ID's and found nothing descriptive. Can anyone enlighten me?

I suspect then, that you've got some diagnostics logging settings turned up
for the public store.

Normally isn't there a scheduled task/event that runs within exchange to
cleanup the db and free up whitespace.
Before we moved over a bunch of mailboxes from another org we archived
all mailboxes so they where smaller than 100megs. But now that we moved
them over a bunch of them are larger
Not what you want. System Cleanup creates more folders in the mailbox -
top level one called "System Cleanup" - and moves items there. Sort of
a "Hey, user! You got stuff you need to get rid of! Look in here!"

The "clean up" processes do run automatically on an Exchange server.

You can change the retention but it won't take effect till the server runs a
schedueled cleanup. IIRC you can force this but during busness hours is going

In Exchange Server 2003 we scheduled Mailbox Manager to run weekly to move
items older than 60 days to the System Cleanup folders based on recipient
policy. We also deleted items older than 30 days from the System Clean folders
again with the recipient policy. This gave the Outlook users 30
actually replicated. crappy design.
