What processors are in the machines? Mandrake is optimised
for Intel Pentium and may cause problems like this when run
on a Cyrix for example. Just a thought.

Hi everybody.
One of our customers here asked us for 3 PCs to be used under Linux
(evaluation as a web development platform). We provided them with
3 identical PCs with components we knew to work with Linux (most of
them being in of my own machine, which runs perfectly) and convinced
them to buy

is the access light being on all the time a bad thing or something? it
started for me when i added a CDRW as secondary master and moved my CDROM
to secondary slave. it's on during BIOS checks and stays on unless i
boot to win98, which turns it off during startup.

Hi there,
I'm currently in the process of making a nice rpm, but I have some
problems...
How do I overcome this problem:
Suppose I have a source file named "blabla-1.32-03.tar.gz"
I make the blabla.spec file as:
---
Name: blabla

This one is interesting on a NT Workstation under MSIE 5.0. The
other one wasn't as fun, ever hold down ALT-F4 at the same time as trying to
kill the original window? I spawned at least 30 msie's before my machine
would respond to me again. Heh, no reboot required though. :)

Hi Dan
How far does LILO get? Does it spit out anything?

put it into single user and use hdparm -tT /dev/hda to test your settings
when you find the fastest, Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, search for hdparm,
you'll need to tweak that line.

I looked in the archives for this, but can't find it. I think someone on
this list brought it up in the past.
I've installed some updates, and now updatedb hangs when running, and
locate fails due to a missing database.
does anyone remember what fixes this?

Hello,
I installed Mandrake 6.0 some weeks ago. Everything
(excepted sound...) works fine, but yesterday I noticed that
I am running with DMA disabled (dmesg excerpt reported below).
I checked the BIOS setup, and it says something like
"AUTO detection of HDD features enabled".

I am going to do that. I have also posted it to bugtraq but I do not think he

Yes, it can be nasty. Send it to the folks at www.insecure.org for posting if
Netscape and Microsoft don't respond. The only way we usually get them to move on
exploits is to post it where malicious people can get it and use it.
MSIE (All versions) has exploits that include stealing files and e

It seems that every time I try to print an email from Kmail something goes
wrong with the printing. It appears that the spooler is bing bypassed and the
text is being written to the device causing endless reams of paper with one or
two characters per page to be written if allowed to continue.
