Avoid mixing the modules up by editing /usr/src/linux/Makefile after you have run 'make menuconfig' or 'make xconfig'. Just change the EXTRAVERSION string (the 4th line down) to something else. This string will be compiled into your kernel, and be part of the modules directory name. This seems

I'm playing with my own internal DNS server, and I have one nagging question. I made up my own "fake" domain called slacker.admin. I then added the cname www to the record. I can ping www.slacker.admin, but I cannot ping slacker.admin. Can anybody point me to why this is happening? Thanks.

I have installed both Mandrake 5.3, as well as 6.0 on my compaq presario laptop. It has a pentium 120, and IDE cdrom, the installation was flawless, only problem I have is I can only do 8bit colors in KDE, or shadows will stay on the desktop when I minimize windows. other than that it has been

I had problem moving from RH6.0 to LM6.0 with PCMCIA. My problem was frozen keyboard due to PCMCIA and GPM interfarence. By moving GPM before PCMCIA in SYS-V init script, I got by OK. This may not be the solution for you but playing the SYS-V init order or process may give you a solution.

Any reason why your boss wants to move to Solaris ? Our company is planning to start offering mid range servers next month running Linux. Sorry but, I do not agree that Linux is not ready. If you go with Sun there are those pesky license fees. They get you now or they get you later.

My quantex laptop uses the neomagic chip set for video. Quantex notebooks start at 1300$ and go up to 3199 $ ( No I don't work for Quantex) Quantex and Dell use the same basic components so you might get a better deal from Dell. I don't know of anybody else that uses the neomagic chipset.
