Hi,
Good to see that someone had a good experience with MDK 8.1 on a intel 810.
I for one had lots of issues with my CDROM not being recognised till I
downloaded the source for 2.4.17 and installed that by hand.
I think that devfsd should be optional till it is thoroughly tested. (I do

Same here! Just got CDROM + Sound up on 8.1 using an Intel 810 board, 8.2 is
not on my horizon yet!

Hi,
If you are a poor soul using an Intel 810 mainboard then the devfs
experience is even worse. You will NEVER get your CDROM to work because
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 will NOT be registered. What you need to do in order to
get a 2.4.8 kernel working is:
A) BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE MAKE SURE THAT YOU BOOT
Hi,
I was running MDK 8.0 at home without a hitch till I upgraded KDE to 3.0
beta 1 using the MDK 8.0 RPMs last night. During updrade I did get some
dependency problems saying kdebase 3.0 beta 1 requires Menu so and so etc. ,
but upgraded using --nodeps anyway. The result is:
a) I can startkde3
It has never crashed on me in 1 1/2 years. That should be stable enough!!

Hi Hugo,
I can confirm 1) 2) and 4) below. I had no problems with the sound card and
I personally feel that (1) and (4) are serious errors that were overlooked
by the release team/ testers, while 2 is extremely irritating. See my posts

something similar happening to me once, though I am not sure whether it was
FreeBSD or Linux. You could try.

Thanks to all those who responded, maybe someone from Mandrake too will read

You might need to use mount -t ext2 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy as the /etc/fstab
defines the filesystem type=vfat sometimes and then only vfat can be mounted
normally.

Hi Experts!
I have a question that I would love to have answered, indeed I have spent
more than 20 hours trying to figure out the answer, but...could not answer
it. I had posted to this list earlier, but at that time I had not put in the
hard work.

I believe that you can set "Clear /tmp at every reboot" somewhere in the

Hi,
I am using a MDK 8.0 on an Intel Celeron with 128M RAM and most things are
working very well except for one problem, which is very troubling at times.
I simply cannot read a CD-R disk properly, whenever I copy something from a
CD-R to the hard disc the program exits with a message like "Could
Going by all the issues on 8,1, I'd expect a Bugfix release 8,2 soon! I am
sticking to 8,0.

Yes I do mean devfsd and hope that the installer gave me a choice of

Any suggestions on how to solve the problem (preferably with devfs if that
has worked for others) including a fresh reinstall etc.. would be
welcome.
Thanks.

Well well, I think that is the problem because when I tried running from an

Looks like a problem with your modem initialization string. Ask your ISP for

I got sound working with the default installation of Mandrake 8.0. Only

flawlessly.
