whole thing has to fit on a floppy, so don't elaborate it too much. Besides, though I wanted the CD to write a basic script to the floppy, the idea was that it would then be edited by the sysAdmin. Customizations would be for things like, how to deal with differently sized hard disks, etc.

I'm no expert, but here is where I would start: 1) have you run fsck ? (File Systems ChecK) If not, then do so, but besure that you read and understand the man first. 2) after passing the fsck, try writing LILO again. Check the options. Make a change, save, change it back, save again. N.B.:
