Dear all,
I have recently upgraded my parents PC from 8.2 to 9.0. Unfortunately,
when it came to configure X during update it appeared to crash, so I
reset my machine and configured X through XFdrake. It all seems to be
running fine now.
My problem is that when I boot up, instead of kicking strai

Todd,
Excellent - so far so good. I booted from CD2 and downloaded and ran
install with 'patch noauto' from 8.2. We are over half way through
install now!
Cheers,
Andy

"Enabling PCMCIA extension cards..." business? Is there a patch out
there that will completely disable this feature - besides, I don't have
any PCMCIA cards anyhow...! Hm?
Thanks,

CMOS Setup, Award Aoftware)?!? I have tried changing a range of options
to no avail. Does anyone have any clues - would be nice to get 9.0 on my
laptop.

have set gcc-2.96 as the standard with 'update-alternatives --config

Looking at the shell blurb (below) it looks like there is a problem with

Dear all
I have installed gcc2.96-2.96-0.80mdk.i586.rpm (along with 3.2) under

I:

# ./install-unix
At present it still bums out as I think it is still recognising 3.2. Is
there a command I pass with '.

I'm in the process of installing 9.0 on my laptop. Unfortunately, the
installation bums out at: "Enabling PCMCIA extension cards..." and
decides to go no further!
My laptop (Chicony MP995) is:

For 8.2 I had to download a 'patch.pl' and run the install script with

I am concerned though that I will lose the 'Applications' Menu,
'Actions' Menu and that task switcher thingy and not be able to get them
back!?! Will they reappear on my menu at the bottom?

Dear all,
It seems to me that a lot of the user-interactivity has been lost with
Gnome 2. Most things have been automated and I can't see how to
over-ride certain options - maybe I need more time to play!
One thing I am trying to do is eliminate all Panels except one at the
bottom for everything
Have given this a shot, but unfortunately it didn't work! For 8.2 I had
to download a patch.pl and run the install script with 'patch noauto' -
unfortunately, this does not work either...
Has anyone else had a similar problem and know how to get around it?
Thanks,
Andy

Dear all,
I have just installed 9.0 and am in the process of installing all other
apps that I need for my work. Unfortunately, I have the following
problems trying to install some image processing software that I use. In
7.2, 8.0, 8.1 & 8.2 I had no problems at all...! Here is the blurb:

I have managed to sort this out now. For future information, from

'patch noauto' at boot prompt. This disables autodetect (I presume!) and it
went straight into install past the PCMCIA configuration... Excellent!

Dear all,
I am trying to install/update (from LM 8.0) LM 8.2 (from CD) on my laptop;
but it gets as far as configuring for PCMCIA and seems to stall and go no
further! I don't have any PCMCIA cards installed.
While LM 8.0 installed fine, I can't find anyway round this; it's driving me
nuts!

Unfortunately, this does not seem to work! The images are still

Any help would be appreciated.

install it there? Or, can I go into Linux and install Windoze on the
