Then I decided to try 8.1 for all the updates and extras...what a piece

again). Do a good back up and plan for a fresh install every time. It a

I can confirm 1) 2) and 4) below. I had no problems with the sound card and
I personally feel that (1) and (4) are serious errors that were overlooked
by the release team/ testers, while 2 is extremely irritating. See my posts

Don't take this the wrong way but, upgrading from 98 to 2000 was no small
feat.

Mandrake Control Center - been there, done that on 8.1. I found the connection
sharing to be much easier to implement on 7.2. It was basically "plug n play"
on 7.2 - all I had to do was activate it. Not so with 8.1. On 8.1, I had a

sharing to work. So, I'm going to wait for another Mandrake version to come
out or try some other linux distro. There are some things in 8.1 I'd like to

1. Creating boot floppies generates empty initrd.img.
2. DMA time-outs on previously working Chipsets/drives.
