I've tried that and it does not work, the chip in ESS ES56CVM-PI is
ESS198x, not a 2xxx series DSP chip so were left out in the cold so to

Yup, kind of a love hate thing. Gotta hate the junk, but love the fact
that it doesn't stop the coders from getting around it. And laptop
manufacturers are also to blame, especially those "linux friendly" ones...

To all the misinformed:
Look, there ARE drivers for winmodems. Go to http://www.linmodems.org ,
and you will find it. You may not find a solution for all winmodems, but
you will for the popular ones. I have a Compaq Presario 1800 with a

You can't, there's no driver for it as it's a WINMODEM that is run by
software on a DSP chip (Digital Signal Processor).

Hello
I checked winmodem site for linux and it seems that my

HSP 56, can work under linux. I have donwloaded the files
and compiled but a lot of errors come out and the module is
not loaded. I think that this is because the modules is for

My bad, the freeze currently in effect is for 2.4. 2.2.4 was released
a long time ago, and 2.3.1
