I´m trying to find natural treatments for our Tiggie´s anemia. She was diagnosed FELV + about a month ago, was dying with an anal tumor, was started on Transfer Factor Plus and Seacure, operated on at the last minute, and has pulled through miraculously. She seems pretty much back to normal now,
Hi Bonnie, I also have a 19 yr old...His name is Inky...He has been healthy his entire life and only been to the vet a few times...Oddly enough, he had 2 hematomas on the same ear that he had to have surgery for over the yrs...Other than that, all has been well until this past year...I think he
Hi Bonnie,
I also got my epogen and made an appointment with my vet to discuss
it to make sure I knew exactly how to do it. I also waited and gave it
with enought time to run him to the vet if there was any kind of
reaction. Antibodies wouldn't form that quickly but there is a rare
I know. Every time someone on the list has lymphoma or anemia, I think I
need to get off the list because it depresses me so much. But I learn so much
from the group, and it helped so much to have people there for me when I went
through it with Simon, that I just can't.

P.S. And I
HI, Belinda. Yes, fluids do thin the blood and worsen the effects of
anemia. They are still necessary sometimes, though, if they are not
drinking, though if he has no kidney or liver problems and you are syringing
food he probably can do without fluids for a few days, I would think.

Well, Patches was hardly eating this morning. She wanted food, but would
just lick at it a little and walk away. I am assuming the problem is her broken
teeth that are coming out on Wednesday, as one of the gums is swollen to about
twice its size. In order to get her to eat an acceptable
I am not familiar with this Dex shot? what is the full name of the drug and

Bupe was the common choice for pain meds the vet I worked for used on
cats for post-sx.
It is a very effective narcotic pain med., and it does help greatly w/
appetite stimulation...
(In fact, in humans, bupe is used as an agent for addicts coming off things
like heroin. Becoming

Such wonderful news.
Hard work and perseverance certainly worked. You are blazing new
trails...
Hope you are giving yourself a pat on the back.
I am so happy to hear the news!

Hi Elizabeth,
Congratulations on Tiggie's miraculous recovery! I'm sure you'll get
responses from the others on the group, (we're slow on weekends
usually), but I wanted to say hello and welcome you. Since you and
Tiggie have already been through so much, and the fact that you have
found TF,
You know, Hideyo mentioned about how other caring people have had to
relinquish/find homes for their animals when faced with animal control
regulations about numbers. I've heard of abominable stories from other
rescuers too. I remember listening in horror as one very dedicated
woman told me
Hi Michelle,

Hi Michelle,
I know Bailey had a fenaytol (sp?) patch after his dental surgery. He
had it for a week and then we took it off, he ate fairly well after the
effects of the anesthesia wore off.

It's Dexamethasone, and it's a very strong, fast-acting steroid that works
within hours and is out of the body in 24 hours. It shrinks lymphoma, helps with
anemia caused by an auto-immune response (killing own rbc's) or lymphoma,
increases appetite, takes down inflammation, reduces pain,
Yes, Merry, Hideyo's attorney, called me yesterday to tell me what her
hopes are for the case (I had referred Hideyo to her) and said she was so glad
that I referred Hideyo to her because she had seen several people harrassed by
animal control in Albuquerque into giving up their cats and
Dexamethasone. It does come in pills, but the shots work faster and
better in my opinion, though harder to keep them on long-term. The shots can be
given sub-q, so if your vet will give you the shot you can give it to Fu
yourself. It is possible she will only be willing to send you home
It always amazes me that more vets don't provide good pain control for cats. The only narcotic that I know of close to that name is buprenex, but it's delivered orally and is good for 8 ish hours. Since the week of Thanksgiving, Smoky has had 3 flare-ups of cystitis, only one of which showed
the raw diet is supposed to help with cystitis and struvite crystals. I am
about to try it with Lucy for chronic loose stools, and am thinking of trying it
with Patches after her surgery (knock on wood) for her urinary tract
problems.

I've had Smoky on the s/o food that normalizes urine pH since his first episode a year ago. The 2nd bout was the week of Thanksgiving, the 3rd, with struvite and bacteria, was Dec 8th and the 4th was on the 22nd while he was still on treatment for the crystals and bacteria from the previous bout.
HOORAY for Merry too!! And of course let's not forget your part in all
this. Michelle, (don't argue with me), please take a bow.

Excuse me for coming into this in the middle, so I
hope I'm not repreating anything but if interstitial
cystitis is the one that recurrs, sometimes has blood
in the urine, no bacteria and cyrstals or stone, I use
slippery elm. Natures Way is one compnay that makes
it and it comes in capsules.
Janine, thanks for the info, it's very interesting and I'll pass it on to my vet. Interstitial cystitis is the one with all the symptoms of a full-blown infection and/or crystal presence (bloody urine, frequency, urgency etc) without the clear presence of a cause for those symptoms and is usually
Look in the archives for recent postings about anemia from kerry who has

him, pretty successfully so far. Folic acid (I think 800 mcg a day--
that's micrograms, not miligrams) was one of them, but there were a
