The bad news is that it's NOT $199 as mentioned previously - it's more.

Even better yet, how about owners of these units send a three part, one line
reply containing how long owned how many images scanned, and a simple "yes"

useful than the noise we have been having recently.

Rob,
Your comments need to be better known. Colour printers are a disaster
for monochrome photographers, and the Cone software really does an
excellent job of using the quadtone greys appropriately and effectively.
Their ink tone is attractive too, a slightly warm black.

I've only had my (second) SS4000 for a few weeks. After some initial

Needless to say PhotoShop compounds the difficulties folk find, as it
will only print to the size designated in the file, and you must
normally re-size. Picture Window is far more convenient, it re-sizes and
re-orientates to make the best use of the paper size chosen, unless you
override it, that

How do you get 48 bit scans out of the SS4000. I am under the impression

I (and others) have noticed scanned negs tend to show a lot of white spots
which don't seem to be caused by dust on the surface of the neg. Since
the image is inverted, presumably the spots are dark or black (opaque) on
the neg itself. Without ICE, this makes for a lot of work in scanning a

There seems to be a lot of confusion over this price, with some saying the
update price is $299 until the end of the year. $499 is way too expensive.
Unfortunately, I'm looking at the colorcal calibration products and
supposedly they are only available as PhotoShop plug-ins. What a racket

I would like you all to know that your input was instrumental in the

The normal LE to v6.0 upgrade price is $499.
But there is a special price of $299 for a limited time.
(No good down under though.)
You're right about the $199 price from v5.5 to v6.0.
Is this getting clearer or more confusing?
I have an ArtixScan 4000t , new 03/00. It was always tricky to feed,
made evil grinding noises while scanning, and was erratic in scan
quality (never bad, just not always reproducibly sharp- which made
multi-scanning useless).To be honest, I wondered if I had made a
mistake in buying it.
Michael,
I remember using PhotoFlo 36 years ago. But I was only 10.
And I remember how easily film (either negs or slides) scratched, even as I
got older.
Thanks for input.

The film holders may be more expensive, but they should be worth it -
hopefully they will be incorparated into the SS4000 sooner than later.

Will this redesign of the holders delay the introduction of the SS120?
Also, will there be a holder for 35mm panoramics (24mm x 65mm) ??
Thanks!
