Other than entering all the staff names as expressions, your answer is
the only one I can think of.
It isn't that big a deal, since the empty staves will all be optimized
away and you'll still be left with a 4-staff score.

This option in the MassEdit menu does not seem to work for this problem.

Bob, everytime you post on the Finale forum here, I get an attached
document "bobflo.vcf" on my desktop. Is is possible to turn that off?

You can do what you want either with group names or with staff styles. Assuming you
predominately have separate staves, you might do it as follows
Set your staff names to
Full: "Soprano" Abbr: "S."
Full: "Alto" Abbr: "A."
Full: "Tenor" Abbr: "T."
Full: "Bass" Abbr: "B."
Create two staff styles.
I am using Windows 2003. I am engraving a piece right now that is
presenting a problem I've never faced before. On the first two pages I am
scoring the vocal parts (SATB) in open score. On the first system of the
piece I want the full staff name for SOPRANO, ALTO, TENOR & BASS. On the

You can't open Finale2003 files in 97, so you couldn't use 2003 for your
note-entry work and then use 97 for other work. Unless the
cut-and-paste thing works between versions. I'm not even sure that you
could have both versions open and cut and paste from 2003 into 97 --

Nope, that won't accomplish anything.

Both programs can exist on the same disk. I had 98 and 2k1d on the

Hi all--
I appreciate the suggestions and comments received on my XP OS/Finale 97c
compatibility issue. The latest poster (David Bailey) suggests I simply
upgrade to 2003 on the XP and have 97c resident. This is certainly less
work than creating a new partition. brilliant!
I'm guessing

An alternative method is to use my Mass Copy plugin. Select the area where you want to
remove the adjustments, open Mass Copy, select the items you want to

Actually, my advice would be to avoid all that rigmarole and simply
upgrade to Finale2003! You can still keep Finale97c on your machine,
but if you upgrade, you should be able to use the new version to play
your files.
