I am using Finale 2004 with Windows 98. Had no problems until I started
playing back files that originated in 2001 or 2003 and were transferred
2004. When I play back the transplanted files I get intermittent very short
duration"choke points" where the playback is disrupted and then resumes. It
In checking the extracted parts of a string quintet, I found a problem in
one measure of Violin 1. The measure contains two quarter notes plus a
quarter rest. Same deal in Violin 2 and both viola parts. All four of these
parts are to have a trill on the first quarter. In the Violin 1 part there
Have not received any mail for a couple of days. No responses to my last
request for help. That happens sometimes. Just wanted to confirm the
circuit to my house is still operational. No need for anyone to respond.
Seeing this post in my mail will be sufficient.

Until now I have not been asked to engrave any piano music. But the time
has come. The User Manual talks about three ways to indicate pedaling. Is
there a generally accepted style in use today to indicate pedaling? Is it
one of the plans in the Manual? If not, what is considered good practice

Stop! I did find in the OLD where you take two files and join them into
one. It's on Page 3-15, under "To combine two files." I never thought to
look for "combine". It works, but there is one unclear step. It says Click

My question deals with quintet string parts. It looks likes I need to
change two movements presently in separate files into one file containing
both movements. The Violin 1 first movement, as an example, is two and a
third pages; the second is one and a quarter pages.

I seem to have forgotten how to deal with a continuous long string of
tuplets. The OLD does not seem to help. WinFin2003a.
Meter is 4/4. I need to enter four groups of six 16th notes beamed together
on two staves in each measure. I would like to set this up prior to note

I browsed on line and found a small program called Big Ben Utility. It is
advertised as recordings of the famous tower bells. The program plays the

Having played weddings for more than 40 years, I played this celebrated
chime sequence who knows how many times. Today someone asked me what the
pitch sequence was for this familiar item. The caller had just acquired an
old grandfather's clock and felt something was amiss when it chimed the

Thank you, David, for your help. I would never have figured that out on my
own. Problem solved. Your procedure works fine in 2001d.

Did anyone on this list begin their piano study with John Thompson's
"Teaching Little Fingers to Play"? I did at age 6. I must still be age 6.
All I would like to do is copy an articulation library I created,
containing only the items I need, from one file (movement) to another file
(movement)
Once again to the list!
The playback volume of my Finale files done on 2001d is quite a bit louder
than files done on 2003. Is there a playback volume control on 2003 that is
hiding from me? I can't remember setting a playback volume in 2001. Another
senior moment! I have not changed any volum
Who said recently that the MassMover locomotive icon could be added to
Fin2003 (just for old times sake)? Jari? I vaguely remember something about
adding a statement to the INI file. If this can be done, would someone
repeat the wording of the statement and where it should be added in the INI
To the collective wisdom of the list:
One of my daughters directs a handbell choir (at the moment 4 octaves of

her Clavinova keyboard before presenting it to the choir. She has a scanner

Many thanks to all who responded to my question about 4/4 vs. C.
I explored the various avenues suggested. In the past I think I have
selected one form and displayed the other without a problem using the Time

I am doing a string quintet in which I initially entered 4/4 time. After
entering all the music, I notice that the autograph I am working from is
marked *C* (just not paying close attention). OK, so I make the change. Now

Many thanks to Johannes Gebauer and Kenneth Kuhlmann for responding to my
question about what was happening on the Finale mail list. I had no idea
they were changing software. My Eudora program continues to operate
normally since it settled down earlier today. Perhaps the trial has passed.

I just came through a couple of days of receiving long digests of Finale
posts. This started out of the blue after about three years on the list
receiving posts not in digest format. My e-mail application, Eudora, was
very unhappy and decided for a while to lock up when I tried to open the IN
