That was my mistake -- I was not doing cross-staff. I forgot that wasn't the only use for Note Mover and had neglected to check that before trying my experiment. So I was actually moving the notes to the other staff, not simply having them appear in the other staff as they do with cross-staff

Hi David, That's interesting. I just tried it again on my FinWin2003 system and confirmed that note mover in cross staff mode most assuredly does not move rests, whether at the beginning, middle, or end of a measure. >From your description, it sounds like you have some sort of option on to fill

Finale2003 for windows DOES move the rest, right along with the notes. At least, it appeared to do so in the quick experiment I just ran. The lower staff ended up with three moved 8th-notes and a final 8th-rest. The top staff ended up with a half-rest where the 3 8th-notes and the 8th-rest had

I don't know how this worked in Fin2000, but in FinWin2003 I just entered 7 8th-notes and an 8th-rest. Chose the note-mover tool, clicked in the measure, drew a box around the 3 handles for the final three 8th-notes and the rest (which didn't have a handle) and clicked and dragged them all to

Finale as of 2003 does not support cross-staving of rests directly, except through workarounds like the one sugggested so far. Please write to Coda asking them to include this feature. It seems like it wouldn't be that hard to add if more people needed and requested it. Let them know if this would

Dear List, I wrote a piano part that includes cross staff beaming. This worked fine, except I need an eighth rest at the end of the measure and FinaleMac (2000c) insists on placing the rest in the right hand. I want the rest to appear in the left hand only. What should I do to fix this? Lar
