Another obvious use that I forgot to mention is to have the PDF manual open
in one screen while you learn how to do some arcane operation like making a
key signature with 2 flats an one sharp.

same time, to have two different views of the same one, etc.
One is 19 inches and the other 17.

Thanks for all the responses! (They were very helpful). My upgrade to
Win XP is a success. (The only remaining "issue" seems to be my scanner,
and a new CD of drivers is in the mail.) Finale works great--MIDI works

I don't know if WindowsXP can handle more than 2 monitors. I use
