Rebuilding the launch services database did the trick! Thanks - that
would not have occurred to me before running through a lot of other
possibilities (mostly blaming Finale itself!)

Can anyone confirm or deny that this issue has been fixed? (Intel
Macs with Firewire audio interfaces have left channel output only
since 2008.) I'm waiting to upgrade
No mention of this fixing audio output with Firewire interfaces on
Intel Macs (left channel only since Finale 2008) - but perhaps the
whole AU plug-in compatibility thing will fix it?

Perhaps MakeMusic pulled the 2008b update? I can't find it on their
site now, and Finale itself reports that I have the latest version
(Mac.)
Can anyone confirm this? I wanted to see if they fixed the MacIntel
left channel only bug...

of this worked fine in the various versions of Finale 2007 btw -
it was the update to 2008 that broke it.

Yes, this update has been out for more than a month, and yes, you
needed to be vigilant to have known about it. The big issue for me
(which I believe I mentioned on this list earlier) is that the audio
output - when using Intel-based Macs - is left channel only. This
may only affect
be a workaround for the moment - I do have the Mac's
line-outs running to my mixer, I just usually keep them muted and
pulled all the way down.
Hmmm... might be worth a shot.

I've been trying to no avail to print a score to large (tabloid -
11x17) paper from Finale. I've tried adjusting the page setup, tried
all sorts of stuff in the print dialog, tried all sorts of settings
with my printer - all to no avail.
Setup is MacPro (Intel) running OS X 10.4.9 Finale
worked. Would some kind soul step me through the process - and
educate the rest of us while you're at it?
Thanks so much. - Bob Shuster
BTW - this particular arrangement is based on PD material!!! :)

with original or PD works to start out, but much of this
material was done by me many years ago. Of course, I think I picked
the toughest category for my initial test pieces - Christmas music
(for brass quartet.)

I want to thank everyone who offered advice and some great links to help me decide between switching to Sibelius or updating to Finale 2007 (from Finale 98.) I did take your advice, reading all the materials I could online and spending some time with each app. I first spent a full six hours with
and notation on PC if necessary, but generally I will use the
Mac. That being said, cross-platform compatibility of whichever app
I choose *is* an important feature to me.

FYI,
if youve never seen Golden Age set music it is the most easily
readable music Ive ever seen come out of Finale or any other music
publishing software. The closest I think you can come electronically to a
good professional copyist (which Don Rice is.)
