Finale already has categories for short, medium, and long slurs -- you can already specific different contours for each, etc -- but not different placement, like I was suggesting. These divisions are based on actual slur length and not the number of notes. And there's no reason not to

Standard B'way practice, at least for long(-ish) slurs. Slurs of 2-4 notes are usually still note-side, but someone may have decided it's worth putting them all above, for the sake of consistency. It would be nice if Finale supported this automatically. It wouldn't be too hard -- Finale
