Hi Pamela,
I remember that I had one fjord who developed a sarcoid. He was treated
with two sets
of injections of an immune system stimulant, I believe, and it went away
never to return.

Denise,
Our manure is picked up once or twice a year, depending on the number
of horses we have, and spread on hay fields by a neighboring farmer.

I really don't know, Denise. We had a gravel base laid under the concrete
and the drains filled with fairly large rocks, but the muddy muck that
sluices
off the floors when we wash them is very fine and packs in like mud and
we have to end

I did try e-z boots and they are great for an emergency, but they were
always a struggle to get on and could be thrown off with enough action.

Hi list,
About barns. We started our small breeding operation with a 10 stall barn
built in a traditional VT style with a ?Dutch front ?hipped roof??.
We have a roughened cement floor wide enough for BIG tractors and trucks
to drive through

Re dressage--I don't really see that Carol and Anne differ much. As for
me I agree that some fjords are better suited than others, that many fjords
do very well up to about third level, that it takes a very good horse of
any breed (and rider

Well Lisa, they do get less exercise and, following the schedules for
feeding
more hay as the temperature goes down below 30, they get more hay.
They do need the hay to stay warm, but , according to them, they don't get
half enough

So Mike, you say you have never had a problem, but not if you have gotten
any special license or paid attention to any such laws??

During the winter our horses eat everything they can get their teeth on.
We feed them as much as we can without being disowned by the vet for
having them so tubby. They are primarily getting a medium grade of hay, so
that they can eat more

I recently read about all of the people from the Northeast Reining Horse
Association who were stopped by the police in Maine and fined for not
complying with the CVW commercial vehicle codes. Many of these were
individuals trucking their own

Our stallion was kept in a stall sometimes, mostly in a pen with a 6 foot
fence
and occasionally in the pasture. He sometimes had a gelding companion, but
tended to wear them out chasing them. We had a run that came near, but not
touching

Having lost horses, and dogs, grandparents, a father, and a sister ( at
Christmas)and having an old horse (23) and dog (14) I share the sad
feelings of all of you who have lost loved one. I like this poem.

Thanks for the input. I record the points toward the NFHR Versatility Award
and have been trying to figure out what to do about this one--does it or
does
it not qualify. I guess I'll consider it a valid Western Pleasure Class.

We used to put the breastplate of the harness on the horse with ropes
added to the end of the tugs. Then we saddled the horse running the
harness tugs under the riders legs and back to the skier. The skier
just held on--letting go whenever

Becky,
I've never heard of that specific description. I don't think they have it
in
this area. In what area of the country are you? I'd be interested to
know
what it is when you find out.

IF you took the boss mare and put her
in a group where she wasn't the boss would her attitude toward the trainer
change too? Same thing if you took the bottom of the line horse and put

Hi Becky!
Fourteen is ancient for a border collie, as I understand it. You've done
well to have yours last that long
Ancient is as ancient does--Missi thinks she's a puppy--still

Hi Becky -- my impression of a Rail Horse is one who works on the rail
in
an arena such as Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, English Pleasure,
and English Equitation.

Mike,
What a wonderful story of Hannah.
We have been working for 3 years to help our beloved Border Collie, Missi,
survive thyroid cancer. We considered, but rejected chemo--too much pain
with no evidence it works, radiation--too stressful

Is it like English Pleasure?

We use high tensile wire fencing around the entire farm perimeter. That way
we can run horses in and out of the barn and from field to field without
ever
haltering them. Within fields we use the temporary orange or yellow tape
fence to keep

re accidents--No human can participate in sports without sometimes falling

I remember when I was president of the NFHR we were trying to establish
a blood type for Grabb from his offspring. I think we succeeded. I just
came back from Paris where they have just used offspring DNA to
establish that, in fact
