Bob,
Confusion, where is the confusion ? Surely not from my part. Read the
thread again, please. Paul asked if someone had HRD working with the
Flex 5K.
I simply answered that I have not a Flex5K, but only a SDR1k. That did
not imply that the Flex5k did not work with HRD. I do not understand how
I confirmed this behaviour before but never heard any comments.
Had not the time to make any investigations.
I tried to reproduce this effect last night with svn1644 and could not hear
it but it was just a quick test and maybe not representative.

All,
I made a revision to the CAT code last night (SVN1658) that removed
SDR-1000 from the ID as: list on the Setup Form CAT tab and replaced it
with PowerSDR. Since all current FlexRadios use PowerSDR, I felt this was
a more appropriate selection. I think I should clarify what the ID as:
Ray,
I don't disagree with the basic approach, but what about the QRM
possibilities of having two independent AF sources modulating the radio
possibly over driving with too much AF gain? Reminiscent of digital
mode operators that chatted up the bands since there mic was open at the
same time
and some show
control stuff, so I never had to fool with mfr ids.

Tim,
I see your point. However, the QRM issue could be easily handled by
determining where the PTT signal was coming from. If from the COM port,
then disable mic input. Also, I would not want to take away the current
Auto Enable feature for DIGL DIGU modes I see this as an additional
option.
Certainly a variety of views and opinions are presented. Some
observations:
-mass confusion about what SDR is, with many assuming it is no more that
control of the radio by a computer.
-mass confusion over what is meant by SDR vs DSP vs Digital.
-passion against radios without knobs.
-Some
what non-SDR owners think about the concept.
I added my Flex story to the thread.

Bill,
I also want to avoid one more hardware box. But, with VAC vCOM, we have

PowerSDR can be modified to allow simultaneous use of both VAC the

Tim,
A voice keyer built into PowerSDR would be nice. However, with many
software packages already available to accomplish the same thing (contesting

Since the keying signals generated by a physical device (PTT, key,

Could such a device read Quadra power and shut down Flex5K power in case of

More than likely, something is causing excessive DPCs and/or you have
something else sharing the same IRQ as your Firewire controller.
Download DPCLAT and check to see what the latency is. Anything greater
