As usual, you bring clarity to the confused. Im embarrassed to admit that
Ive read the Buffers and Sampling Rate article in the KC more than once. I
often think I understand what I thought I read. I failed to comprehend the
importance of the DSP Buffer Size settings in the Setup Form.

This is the issue. If you increase the number of samples in the DSP buffer,
you sharpen the filter
While tuning the CW portions of 80 and 40 and running v2.0.19 RC1 I'm
finding that CW selectivity does not work properly below 1 kHz selectivity
in CWL or CWU. Using v2.0.16 beta CW selectivity performed properly.

I guess first requirement is that you have enough processing muscle to do
the job. This means normally a CPU with multiple cores and a L2/L3 cache
over 1MB.
Secondly, you need a motherboard well-engineered to reduce latencies. So

Thanks Tim and Dan.
Looks like it should be painless then. I'm not too worried about the
settings at the moment.
I'll give it a try on the weekend.
Love these SDRs!

I've spoken with Neil a bit on this . What are the most important
specs to have when building a SDR computer???

It doesn't matter what firmware the radio has on it currently. There is not a
minimum requirement to upgrade to v2.0.19 RC1
The PowerSDR v2.0.19 RX1 integrated Installer will take care of the Firewire
driver and firmware update for you.

Subject: [Flexradio] 1394 Legacy driver? Fi
Hi everyone,
I'm still running PSDR version 1.18.3 with Firmware 1.3.0.6 and the Firewire
driver version 3.4.2.6300 on my Flex5000A. Wondering if I can just do the
upgrade or should I be looking at manually upgrading the Firmware and
drivers to a more recent version first.
I understand tha
1. With respect to Win 7 64 bit, what is a legacy driver? As opposed to
what other type/kind of kind of driver?
2. Is a 1394 bus driver different from a 1394 driver?
3. What is the Flex firewire driver? How does it relate to a legacy, or
other, driver. I assume that firewire driver and 1394 d

One caveat:
You can be fooled into thinking you have a custom driver for your card.
Windows will report different driver names for the same driver. For
instance, I see that in the 1394 device entry, it will report TI 1394
Controller driver yet when you look at what the driver name is (in the

" Does this make sense?"
Does anything? ;-)
What I passed on was the recommendation from the Firewire driver developers.
You may have a driver that has been optimized by the manufacturer.
I have also received comments that changing to the legacy driver has made a

I am running 2.0.19 RC1 with a Flex-5000 under Windows 7. Just for fun last
night, I changed from the 1394 bus driver that had been provided by the
manufacturer of my Firewire card to the legacy 1394 driver. Although I did not
spend much time experimenting, it appears that the CPU utilizatio
