Robert-I think you will find the V/U modules were on *sale* for about a year
now - longer than the original plan. The recent increase is probably due to
restoring the modules to their normal retail price point.Any new product is

Listening to 2m FM repeaters is a pain in this area as most use CTCSS on the
output. The Flex does an excellent job of providing full audio fidelity. The
sub-tone from the repeater is disturbingly noticeable. I tried using the EQ but
it makes a negligible difference. Is there a was to notch out
?Same here! And I had the 2nd RX and ATU done as well. Super fast.
Got it back today - Merry Christmas!

John- Are you referring to a bug in the PSDR software? Is it the official
released version (where a phone call is the best path)? Or a software beta
version (where the other 'edge' email reflector would be appropriate)?
Is this a hardware issue (where a phone call to Flex would be the correct

I am curious why we have not seen a digital voice mode, similar to the AOR
product, in the Power SDR software. Any ideas? Maybe just a matter of
priorities & future development?

Congratulations to Eric & his XYL.
Family is more important than coding. And babies are the most important. Enjoy
the special (sleepless) moments.
Welcome Sam!
Dad, get him used to hearing CW and it's okay to let him play with the knobs in
the shack.

Nice idea Dan but very difficult for any company to handle.
Something I and most hams have learned over the years, if your radio is
mission critical to you, you best get a back up radio. I bought a 746PRO for
that very reason. A nice used FT-101 or TS-520 among others (circa
1970-1980) is cheap an
Great information and discussion folks. My curiosity has been peaked even
more. Hmmm, a flexwire aware preselector.
Now this is what I like to read in this reflector. I can smell the smoke in
the minds of the Flexers now : )
Keep those wheels turning.

I read why the Flex 5000 does not use a roofing filter somewhere. As I
recall it was due to the RX design. I can't find that info now and I would
like to find out exactly why roofing filters do not have a place in the
5000/3000.
Thanks, Joe

If it helps anyone, I built a new PC for my Flex 5000A to replace my Dell.
The PC does run LOTS of stuff at my station, not the Flex exclusively. I use
VISTA 32-bit OS.
It has been flawless as a PC for the Flex. Probably overkill for me and most
others but you never know what is needed 3-4 years do
I hope someone will un-confuse me.
I like to play with two SVN editions: Pretty Betty and the latest SVN from
the test branch. Now, Pretty Betty always updates with the latest SVN number
but when launched, it show v1.19.0 in the title bar. Then the test branch
updates with the same SVN number but
Yes, that is what I run here. However, I use the Ameritron ARB-704 interface.
No issues what so ever. Standard set up.

Whoo hoo. NICE update indeed! I did not expect the XML database in this
update - what a nice surprise.
Runs great so far here. Thank you FlexRadio (and testers) for all that hard
work to get this out already. The hours invested must have been significant.

Excellent point Bob.
A consideration could be made for a separate tester/coder email reflector.

I would like to use my Flex5000 for AM broadcast band RX DXing. The images
below 1 MHz are terrible. As per the Flex specifications:
'Customer provided preselector or appropriately selected low pass filters
required to eliminate images when used below 1.8 MHz'
Has anyone bought/built a filter? If
I've been running Pretty Betty v1.19.0 and the latest test v1.19.1 (both SVN

Other than the obvious GUI, where can I find the differences between the two
versions?
Both seem to perform the same to me in my limited use capacity.

To help sort out the 3000 vs. 5000 messages, early on I just created a
mailbox filter and have separated messages for the two radio models. Works
great for me. Box1 = 3000, box2 = 5000, and a default for all others.
Most people (should and do) type in either 3000 or 5000 in the subject line.

Hi Kirk & Carl.
Interesting to see other ex-Orion owners (me too) who went to the Flex 5000.
It was a very good move for me.
