Hi Dale!
Disable all "power saving" options.
Look for check boxes saying something like "turn off this device when not in
use to save energy". That "feature" is useful for laptops not connected to
anything and running on battery power for long periods, but for a desktop PC
that feature is not
Hi Dale!
Some PC's share the USB buss between multiple ports, or the USB may share a
IRQ with other devices. Try a different USB port on the back of the PC (
not the convenience ports on the front ). If that does not resolve the

When I set up my 5000 to work with DEMI transverters, I found that the
"Preamp" defaulted to "Off" for each XVTR band I set up. Had to go back and
turn the Preamp to "On" for each XVTR band.
Also review the setting for "Split IF" ( or shared IF ) .

Hi Lester!
Are there any network interfaces present (including wireless networking)
? They may be built into the motherboard. Doesn't matter if you have
them connected to a network cable or not. If present, try disabling
those devices in the PC's BIOS.

I had this problem when I first purchased my 5000A running more than about
50 watts. It turned out that RF was getting into the firewire cable.
I put ferrite chokes on each end of the firewire cable (three loops through
the hole), no more problems, now I can even run the Alpha amp at full power

All,
While the 1 watt to 5 watt power seems small, it really isn't because
the specification is Effective Radiated Power. An efficient dipole
antenna at this frequency would be about 1000 feet long, a 1/4 wave
vertical would be over 500 feet tall.
If you are running a 60 foot vertical ( re
