here's an answer to one more Q,
a little while ago i was doing something similar with booting (but not media

u want, but you can also pass on custom variables.

Al,
thats happened to me when the bttv or tuner id number is wrong in
modules.conf (bttv misconfigured)
i bet when u rmmod bttv tuner btaudio (etc) the audio turns off, and as
soon as u insmod bttv again
the audio comes back on? if so its the bttv module(s) config.
play with modules.conf.
Thanks Aubin, I've now got it working. As per
David Amiel's post I needed to use libsdl cvs.
One more thing, I have modified my MPlayer Args in local_config.py to use
dfbmga:buffermode=triple. Can I easilly modify freevo to use this at startup. This
may be of benefit to others as it doesnt
I browsed the mailing list and noticed the MP3

Hi,
I'm wondering if there is a project to translate Freevo menu in other
languages. I plan to translate some of them in French but I notice that
the following web site (http://www.lahiette.com/biboobox/) has already
screenshots with French menu. If there is already a project started, I'm

I spent this weekend putting together a freevo box. I have it working great
with a few tweaks here and there.
One thing I notice.. whenever I activate the backup/rip CD plugin I have to
reboot the freevo machine completely to get access to /dev/dsp again.
for some reason whenever I rip a CD it
I know how to set the tv car's brightness, color and sharpness settings using
xmltv but with the freevo package and mplayer I cant find any documentation
on how to do the same.
How does someone increase the tv card's brighness with using mplayer and
freevo?
Sorry of the slow updates on this one. I've been busy at work and was
finally able to start working on my Freevo box again (yay!). The good
news is that this means my Freevo Installation HOWTO has been updated.
ChangeLog:
- Added section on tvtime plugin (including info on VBI and
What would /dev/dsp be involved at all? We call cdparanoia and lame
directly, so unless there is something wrong with one of those, I'm
not sure how /dev/dsp could be affected.

The text in Freevo comes out of the XML, so all you would need to do
to localize it, would be to make a new XML that inherited from one of
the skins and then override the text;

Where do I need to look in freevo to modify where it looks in the TV.xml

right now ID= is looking at some ugly C02wzzm.linkit.com (or something like

I cant find a link anywhere to download themes for freevo.
Is there one place where I can get them? as searching for themes in the wiki

default theme.
again thanks.

Ok, i am the author of the BibooBox french site. You can easily modify the
text by editing the xml files inside skins/main/...
There is a small section on my site with some hints about that.

Hi,

Channel names refers to two different things; one is the unique
channel id (i.e. your C02wzzm.linkit.com) and the other is the more
human one.
Freevo uses the unique channel id for recordings and for listings, but
the name can be either pulled out of the XML (using a script in CVS)
or you can use

I start to modify the skin but a full localization would require to
modify python files since only some strings (mainly the ones used for
the menu) are in XML files. For example, I try to change the TV Guide
string but I have to modify tv.py for that...

I see the point. In fact, maybe we should propose to the devel list a real
multi-language system for Freevo.

Yes, that's the point. I think this would only require that each
module writer use an external xml file storing all the strings used at
screen. As a proof of concept, I can try (I'm just starting to learn
Python ;-) to modify one plugin to use this system.
For a more general use, a global option
We could also use the python gettext module (togheter with the locale
module), wich gives access to i18n and l10n services. It's pretty
straightforward to use it, check your python library reference section 6.25.

How about documenting Freevo's own web interface instead? :) I can
provide you with any information you may need.
I'd love to, but I don't run Freevo's web interface (it was totally broken
when I tried it - though I have yet to get CVS up and running).
Also I am going to write some docs

That said, it doesn't matter how we do it, though I hope we can choose
