then tried manual/static IP but neither worked. Do I need to set DNS or
gateway settings on the PC if I do this? See below for Apple tech document
on this - I tried all this... only problem is that I don't know how to set
the PC...

the network printer in USB Printer sharing, but the HP doesn't show

10.1.3 through Software Update.
Problem is, installing an older version of X over a newer one apparently causes fatal
problems like kernel panics. And, of course, 10.1.3 doesn't exist on a CD.
