So many people are saying that Micro$oft's presence on the Mac is
important for the survival of the Mac, but I am wondering...
I am fully aware of how crap Office is on the Windows platform,
which is probably why I put up with Orifice v.X on my Mac.
I start the day by switching on my brand new PB

1) M$ is being sensitive to the needs of old Mac OS (8-9) users.
The problem is that the old Finder on old Mac OS only supports
filenames up to 31 characters. Because Office force limits
filename lengths to this old restriction, OS X
OS 9 may be dead to you but there are still millions with older equipment not yet able
to move to OSX.

Good morning, I find the spelling of Microsoft with a $ to be
completely disingenuous..if you had been smart enough to buy, steal
or create DOS you would be rich too. Do you believe Apple products are
cheap, or Apple is not in the business to make money? I have been a
Mac user since 1985
I've used Office on new machines and old machines and never had a
single problem. We've got it loaded on 30 eMacs here at the school I
work for and all of them run flawlessly. The PC's with office and win98
lock up all the time, but the Macs run fine. Office 2001 runs great too
on classic. I
Right on, when was the last time Apple gave something similar to
Microsoft's TS2 seminars. They teach you how to use their products and
then give you a free copy. Not every TS2 is the same, but since I
started attending 2 years ago I've gotten Windows 2000 SBS, Office XP,
Windows XP pro,

Apple offers free seminars, both live and online (for those of us living in the
middle of nowhere). Besides various seminars and workshops
Thanks, I will!

hey, I just checked out their website and must retot my previous
argument. They do have some cool seminars, a mac OS X server seminar
would be nice, but I can live with iMovie and iDVD guide. Plus multiple
others. I live near Denver, so that is what I checked out. I plan on
attending one

I take your point and admit that OS 9 has/had many
good points yet to be beaten in OS X, BUT I find it
somewhat hard to believe that Micro$oft has done

Yes, Office 98 2001 are pretty decent actually, which is probably
why I've reacted at Office v.X's poor behaviour.

They just used the older Carbon API to do a quick,
straight port without bothering using the new calls
to support more than 31 characters...
I know the MBU isn't as big as the rest of Micro$oft, but I still
think it sucks. Really cheap.
