Well, OS X is now on the Wallstreet! I took out the new memory I bought from OWC and replaced it with the original 32MB chip that was in the lower slot. Started up the machine and there it was. Installed without a hitch. But this morning the machine did not want to start up. I had to take

MY G3 mounts an OSX install disc. You may try pressing c (or is it d?) at start up to force it to select the cd. CD-RWs are not recognized by the internal g3 cd tray. A peripheral device may recognize them. Don't worry their not particularly useful, in my opinion. 23/12/03 9:46 am -0800

I recently went through this problem with a hard drive and went to my local hobby shop with a kitchen magnet and a paper clip. The metal that I found to be the most effective magnetic shield was tin. Brass has been recommended on a site but it did not work for me and the magnet was able to easily

Yes, you need a material that conducts the magnetic flux so it doesn't get to the magnetic reed switch. However I think what you are calling tin is really plated steel. Elemental tin is not magnetic. Tin cans aren't tin anymore, they are coated steel. I trimmed the ends off an blank steel PCI
