have held up pretty well..I've upgraded a few. They're ridiculously small by
today's standards, of course, but they've held up well. The only one we've
surplused had cola spilled into it's guts and the owner kept trying
cranking along. If something
is causing the CPU to spike, maybe there's something going on software-wise to
cause this.

Also, some advice that's only useful for the future: when you're in a hole,
STOP DIGGING!
The first thing to do if a system won't boot into OS X is to try a safe mode
boot: hold
