While I love Terminal - use it all the time... I'm not sure why
MacLife would send you to Terminal, risking fateful typos etc, to do
what you can do safely from Disk Utility. Did the magazine at least
STRONGLY recommend that you run full backups first?

It does, but it's only the most recent piece of the log for the 19th.
The crash and panic logs are from different dates and times.

Cover flow does its thing by generating thumbnails on the fly, then
caching them. From what I can tell, especially on older/slower Macs,
it falls behind itself then gets lost in cache management overhead.
Might be worth trying to clear its cache...
