Hi gamers,
As a lot of you know we are looking at porting USA Raceway, Tomb Hunter,
and STFC 2 to C++. While long term the advantages out way the
disadvantages I can not ignore the simple fact this is a huge
undertaking. Not only is it a major undertaking, but it will take a lot
of time to
I'd have to agree. If you've already got something started, no need to
restart again.
And the other thing is. As an end user, will there be any noticeable
difference? If not, then I say just use what you've got now.

Hi Thomas,
I personally say go forward with the games in native C now, then make the
convertion at a later time. Since as you said making the port would
basically mean starting over from scratch, that would force gamers who've
already been waiting what, two years? for the games to wait
Personally, I'd rather get the games released so I think you should
release them with what you started using. You can program future titles
in c++. I've been hopeing for raceway for several years now and also I
was one of the preorderers of monty and I want what I payed for. Not
trying to
hi i think you should try and release what you are able too this year.
what advantages would one gain via waiting a year or two extra?
i think though that if a good enough product can be released of one or
more games this year, at least that will satisfy the majority of
customers to receive
Hi Tom. Personally, I say if you have some code written already, then finish
it this year and port it later. That's just my opinion, because for me it
seems like you wouldn't have to port what you already have... just finish it
now, and then port it, or something. And of course, if you don't
I definitely agree with Mike Tom. It's far better to get the games finished
sooner and then use C++ for your future titles. Through no fault of your
own, the waiting times on these games are just too long to operate any
differently. After you've finished off Raceway and the sidescroller, you
And as I said, there would be nothing to stop you from porting the games
later, when you were free of prior expectations and had nothing else on your
hands.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

Hi tom.
While I understand technically the point of converting to C++ is a good idea
in the long run, sinse ms support for the format is likely to be long
lasting, I'd personaly love to see more titles from usa games asap.
Most people, me included, are stil able to run games using the ms
I agree. in fact don't bother converting. simply release the game, and any
future games you make can be programmed in C++. it'll definitely be less
stressful. I'm sure you've had enough of raceway and your sidescroller :D.

I'd convert, however, just release the game in a playable state in 1.0
with all the features we've been expecting for like four years now,
and release 2.0 with the new engine in a better, stabler, language.
I'm currently listening to Mamacitas in my Valley by DiggiDis on the

hmmm.
That probably would be better just release v1.x of each game then
work on the overhall for v2.

Well although I'd like games sooner than later if those games can be
futureproofed now rather than later I don't mind waiting.

Hi Liam,
the only noticeable difference would be in special game devices like
force feedback wheels. The current Managed DirectX libraries have known
problems with force feedback devices. I could support the wheels
themselves, but they would do without force feedback. that might come as

Hey Thomas. I'd say go ahead with .net. It would be different if you
didn't have preorders bogging you down and holding you back, but it's kind
of a different case.
I was under a ton of stress even when I had only let people preorder two
weeks in advance for jd. I can't imagine the amount of
Hi Bryan,
Just a miner correction. The games are currently written in Visual
Studio .Net not native C++. I was looking at going to native C++.

My first thoughts are that as long as the game is of quality and it plays as
it should, the end user doesn't care much as to what was used to get it that
way. Also, if you can redo the games at a later time, and you are willing
to do so, you've answered your own question, sort of? If the

- Unlockables
- All sounds in the game
- the videos are funny as heck! I get a kick out of 'em!

- The fact that once you beat it, for example you beat it once, there's still
more to come, wherez in
other games, beat it and you're done.

appologies if I got things wrong, i assumed it was a compatibility issue,

Hi,
I think you should continue porting them to C++.

Just finish the currrent games right now, then for an upgrade or something
like that, port the games over to c. That would give ou plenty of time to
do that.

another thing would be to have some sort of online matching thing
where 2 players rumbled it out I know that this is not strictly part
of the actual game but it would be fun if you just had player against
player battles and tourniments.
