Well, it's one of those sleepless nights, so I decided to compile the
newest version of xine and fire it up.
Here's the crazy part, I can play .avi's, .mpeg's, and even .wmv's (that
surprised the crap outta me). Here's the even crazier part, sound is
choppy when playing all formats except for .wm
Ximian, excellent desktop. And it's very intuitive. The default
install has a word processor (abiword), a spreadsheet (gnumeric), an
e-mail program (evolution), and a browser (mozilla). Everything is
available from the drop down menu up top, and the desktop looks nice and
is extremely customizea
ly using it, and not

What type of amphetamines is your computer on? It took me about 2 days
to get my 1.33 ghz athlon system up and running with gentoo. That was
of course compiling everything. Perchance did you use the binaries?
In other news, gentoo is awesome. I can't say that enough. Portage

I normally try and figure things out myself, but I've failed to understand
what's going on in this instance. I can't mount my cd-rom, nor my dvd-rom.
I'm running Suse 7.2. I know the drives are working because Yast2 has no
problem installing software from the installation disks. And I know I
o clue and this is
gonna puzzle me for a long time.
But, the good news is that I pointed everything in the right direction and
it's working fine. In a related note, I would suggest against anyone buying
a RAITE dvd-rom. It's a cheap piece of trash in my opinion.

I think it's good. If AOL can buy out Redhat and possibly increase the
Linux user base, it can only mean good things. If you don't like
AOLinux, get another distro, no big deal. But it should bring wider
recognition to Linux in general, and with a larger user base, less
companies would be re

I find myself migrating towards this sick little monkey, Ximian. So I
was also considering being adventurous and switching over to using gdm
as my login manager instead of kdm. Is there really anything different
about these two? I've never used gdm before. If there's no difference,

I have Unreal Tournament, which after installation doesn't require the
cd to play. But we couldn't do that of course, that would be illegal.
